There’s Still Such a Thing As Southern Rock
This is a band out of Nashville covering a lesser known Tom Petty song.

Thanks for posting that, I enjoyed it. I’m checking out some of their stuff now and I just might be a fan. Smile

I’m a fan already. Give Whiskey Myers a listen as well.

Yeah, I’ve got all or parts of three albums from Whiskey Myers. Hadn’t heard of Trongone.

I once heard about a band from down South called Bad Mayonnaise. Anybody else?

Ditto, WM kicks ass.

A few of the bands I'm currently listening too:

The Dirty Guv'nahs
Flying Buffaloes
Heathen Sons
The Vegabonds
49 Winchester
Them Dirty Roses
Tyler Wilhelm
The Dirt Drifters
Scooter Brown Band

plenty of others out there

Good deal. This is lead singer/guitar player, Wes Bayliss. I might take the opportunity to give a little commercial for my friend, Anthony Sims. Anthony builds Lucky Dog Guitars in Cleveland, Tennessee. Several months ago Bayliss got a Lucky Dog and he’s pictured playing it here. I’m on the wait list, probably for at least another year, but it’s fun to plan a T-style exactly the way I want it.

^ That's cool, Tmats. I actually did some digging around about what kinda gear they were using based on that video. Wasn't a ton of available info from my search. Looked like a mix of vintage and custom stuff. That's right in my wheelhouse.

They're definitely into tone, that's easy to tell.

This may be my new favorite band to dig into, especially with this song. I must've listened to it a half dozen times last night. It's soooooo good.

“Straw in the Wind”

I was playing them earlier this morning and heard this one. Todd mentioned Whiskey Myers above. The Steel Woods have several concert dates upcoming with Whiskey Myers. Closest to me is Denver, and I don’t think I’ll go down into that for a show, but I’ll keep watching for a closer or better location Wink

Man, there's something to be said about low output pickups and moderate gain and getting the strings to growl. There's at least three of these kind of moments per each new song of theirs that I listen to that makes the hair on my arms and neck stand up. Damn, these guys are into tone.

I don't get out to see a lot of live acts anymore since I've got a little one, but this is one I would go see live.

I was going to recommend them as well.

Or try Black Stone Cherry for something with a little more metal edge.

I was listening to the Steel Woods this morning and this song came up. I found a quality live recording and thought I’d share it with you folks. This one was written by lead vocalist/guitar player, Wes Bayliss, and Jason “Rowdy” Cope, lead guitar. One thing that’s absolutely true is that they write songs with moving lyrics.
