Patton - Ever notice?
Patton (with George C. Scott) has always been a favorite of mine. Has anyone ever noticed, as he is riding through the desert on the half track, siren blazing, that the flag on the fender says

WTF

Anyone else notice this? Anyone else laugh every time it appears in frame?

I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. -Ecclesiastes 9:11

Historically, Patton wore a Colt single action on his right hip and a Smith .357 magnum on his left hip. Did you notice that, in the beginning of the movie, when he's giving the speech, the guns are reversed. Colt is on the left hip . Later they are in the correct placement. This means they had to have both a right and a left holster for each gun ?? Never figured that out and no, the film isn't reversed because his medals are on the correct side .

Those were his favorites, but he also carried, at various times during his career, a Colt 1908 Pocket Hammerless .380, a Colt Detective Special .38, a Remington Model 51 .380, a M1911 .45, and even a Colt Woodsman .22.

(In the film, Patton uses his Colt 1908 to shoot at a Luftwaffe plane in North Africa. In real life, he didn't receive his 1908 until mid-1944, a year or so after the apocryphal Luftwaffe incident.)

It's true that he carried a variety of guns at different times. You have to wonder, when you have a .45 Colt and a .357 Magnum in the foot locker , why would you strap on a .22 or a .380 ??

Another Patton carry gun. Big Grin

(Actually, he's posing with an antique German Jäger rifle from the 1700s. The photo was taken in Frankfurt in late March 1945, after his 3rd Army had captured the city.)

And look at that smile on his face!

Hedley Lamarr: Wait, wait, wait. I'm unarmed.
Bart: Alright, we'll settle this like men, with our fists.
Hedley Lamarr: Sorry, I just remembered . . . I am armed.

Perhaps it's my sophmoric sense of humor, but him in the half track, siren wailing, and knowing where he is going and what he's about to do to that command... a WTF flag on the fender seems really funny
