Sting's solo music was much more jazzy-fusion oriented.
Not all of it. A good amount was more rock/pop sound.
This new song from him sounds kinda-Police-esque to me too, as if this was a Police song had they stayed together all this time.

I came to The Police via my very cool uncle, whom I saw in possession of the "Reggatta de Blanc" album during a visit in my early teens. If this band was good enough for him, it was darn sure good enough for me.
I've been a fan for 35 years or so. As annoying as the title is, "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da" is my favorite song of theirs, closely followed my "Miss Gradenko."
I also like how The Police can take some really dark subject matter and set it to the catchiest tune - reminds me when couples were playing "Every Breath You Take" at their weddings. I seem to recall Sting expressing some surprise at that.
