What are your favorite Michael Caine films?
In honor of Sir Michael Caine turning 90, let's list our favorite films. Don't let the "Sir" fool you. Michael Caine is not a film star snob; he's a regular guy with great acting ability, one of my favorites in all cinema.

Let's keep the numbers manageable, no long lists. Five films at most, please.

For me, in order of most favorite:

  • Get Carter - the original 1971 film, and not his appearance in the unnecessary remake from 2000

  • The Man Who Would Be King

  • The Ipcress File

  • Zulu

  • Alfie

Play Dirty from 1969. Intriguing desert warfare movie right up to the end.

Love him in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

And of course as twisted,cross-dressing psycho in DePalma's Dressed to Kill.

I recall him best in Zulu, A Bridge Too Far, and The Muppet Christmas Carol. As an aside, one of the storefronts on set of The Muppet Christmas Carol is marked as Micklewhite's.

Maybe The Island. Not one of his greatest films, but the scene where he unloads the Browning on the pirates is cinematic awesomeness.

I'm rewatching The Battle of Britain in which he plays a squadron leader. Had started it last week but timing is good for his 90th.

Having not seen "Get Carter" I'm impressed that Para's rated it above one of my all-time favorites, "The Man Who Would Be King", and so now I need to find and watch "Get Carter".

"Secondhand Lions" might be my second-favorite of his.

Trying (and failing) to think of any of Mr. Caine's films I've seen that I didn't like, now that I think of it.

I agree with all the ones listed above.

Second Hand Lion is a movie I've enjoyed.

Everyone else is playing by the rules. I asked nicely, didn't I?
