Snake Man: The Story of C.J.P. Ionides by Alan Wykes
Book about my most favorite 20th century character. There was probably no other person who was more his own man than Ionides.

Decided to re-read the Clancy books but this time having the benefit of being able to read them in timeline order rather than published order. I began reading him back in 2007 when I first started traveling for work.

Finished “Looking For Rachael Wallace” by Robert B Parker. While I like his Jesse Stone series, the Spencer books are mediocre in comparison and this book was no exception.
Going to change gears and read “Presumed Innocent”, the first book by Scott Turow. I remember the movie with Harrison Ford, Brian Dennehy and Raúl Juliá and found the plot intriguing; hoping the book lives up to my expectations.

May go this route after I finish Bosch. I do know I'll skip Sum of all Fears. I remember it being an extremely tedious drag midway through.

Clancy can get heavy. I want to say in this he took 14 pages to describe the nuclear explosion. Not the damage from it, just the mechanics of the bomb lighting off.

I think that was the drag I experienced. Seemingly over-technical expanse of text that didn't really add much to the story. Compared to some of the others that are solid page-turners, SoaF just didn't hold me like the others I've read. Without Remorse, Rainbow Six are the first 2 that come to mind that I really enjoyed.

I've decided to add a few more older books (classics?) to my list, so I'm reading The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler. Not bad, and some of the dialogue is hilarious.

Burning through the Bosch books. About 75% though Trunk Music & picked up Angel's Flight this afternoon. Put A Darkness More Than Light on hold.
Keeping a 2 book rotation from the local library, finish 1 & turn it in when I can pick up the next.
Edit: Finished Trunk Music last night. Fitting title, considering the closing chapters.
Started Angel's Flight and distinctly remember the season from the show on this one. This message has been edited. Last edited by: P250UA5, April 02, 2025 07:30 AM

Continuing with the classics, just started The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Interesting look at the Gilded Age; the writing is slightly above my reading level, so I have to really pay attention. The author is very verbose in his descriptions. I haven't seen either of the movies based on the book, but probably will after reading it.

Finished Scott Turow’s “Presumed Innocent”, a decent book, and started/finished Robert Crais’s “A Dangerous Man”, another in the Elvis Cole/Joe Pike series. Started another Michael Connelly book in the Bosch series titled “The Narrows”.

I just read something about Fitzgerald today that you will probably enjoy. The Great Gatsby was a huge flop for years, the author died penniless and thought of himself a failure. But then the U.S. Army got involved….

Finished The Narrows by Michael Connelly. Decent book, not quite up to par with some of his works. Starting another in the Prey series by John Sanford titled Naked Prey.

I was looking for some good fiction to read while between books "on hold" for Kindle. I revisited John Grisham and read several of his books, all pretty good. That brought me to his non-fiction "Framed". The crimes committed by police, prosecutors, judges and "expert" witnesses were despicable. I believe in the death penalty; believe it's not used enough and that appeals need to be speeded up. This book definitely made me pause. It's cowritten with Jim Mccloskey the founder of a group that looks into the cases of people on death row or in for life.
