Wants vs Needs.

Again, I dig watches. There’s some beautiful time pieces out there that I would love to have!
Rolex Submariner would be nice, but I’d like the “red”. (Submariner is in a red font, made between roughly 1968-1972 or so).
The price is about $10,000 more.

I, at this point, have some upcoming bills that are going to get in the way of me getting a Rolex.
(Man, College is expensive!)

The $300ish Titanium Helm Im wearing right now functions just the same as that Rolex.
My $250 Citizen Divemaster does actually more, and I wore that at my other job which required me to dive.
There’s a $400 ish G-Shock in my collection that does even more!
I had an old Casio that got lost somewhere along the way, maybe $15 back when I got it. Worked great, had everything I needed.

Im not strapping on my Omega Moonwatch Professional to go to work (either job).

But for me, it’s something that I like.
Something I can justify buying with my current financial situation.

Watches are a lot like guns.
That $500 Glock is a workhorse! It’s reliable, fits my hand and needs well, parts are readily available.
But damn if that Staccato aint nice!

Can you justify it? Can you afford it?

The good thing about watches- there’s a lot of knock-offs, replicas and homages that are almost as reliable, durable, but a whole lot cheaper!

A Moonwatch is top of my want list.
I love my Seiko Monster [thanks vthoky ], but my Citizen CZ Hybrid gets EDC duty.
The dumbest of smartwatches, IMO. But it's analog hands on a digital face. Just enough info without pulling out my phone.

I love watches, I have more than a few Casio's, I had a 1980's Casio Marlin which was the granddaddy to the G Shock. Since my eyes are getting older this is the one that spends the most time on my wrist and if you live near the ocean its perfect.

Thanks alot guys, once again I am being tempted to open the wallet. I have always liked these and lord knows I do not need more watches but a couple of Duros for about $100, so tempted.

I love my rangemaster!!! Before that I bought the first model casio to use atomic time and solar power. I wore it 24/7 and it made it 16 years before the electronics fried. and that was 16 years of getting beaten up in a prison environment...

I bought one in April as I'll be travelling to a third world country later this year. I love watches and most of mine now are GMT complications. While I am bringing an automatic GMT watch with me, I'm not bringing the most expensive watch I have. I bought an under $500 for the trip for use in airports and inside hotels but I plan to switch to this Casio when going out in the streets.

I took off the rubber strap, added a strap adapter to accommodate a wider strap, and put on a black nato strap to make it more secure on my wrist.

It has many more functions other than the GMT than I'll ever want to use like alarms and such.

I find watches to be a lot like firearms where the true aficionados can appreciate an inexpensive powerhouse like the Casio about as much as they appreciate multi-thousand dollar pieces. Reliable function is highly appreciated in the watch world, as it is with firearms and often as it is with automobiles.

I added a 5600BG-1 G Shock to the stable last year and it gets more compliments than my Omega, I think.

This means the watch will sit for long periods of time and if and when I do need it, there's a chance that its DST setting will be wrong, whether it's on or off. Of course most everyone knows that DST runs from March to November, and changing this setting on the watch takes less than 10 seconds. Anyway, it's a minor complaint for a watch of this capability and battery life, that costs 20 or 30 dollars.

I see now that they are offering a larger screen version , but not with the cloth band
