RichNI submit Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Not that he ever became a great actor, but the difference between the '70s (Hercules in New Yord, The Villian), the '80s (Conan, Commando), and the '90s (Total Recall, True Lies) is significant. I'm not sure he continued to get better after the '90s, but I don't think he's gotten any worse.

I have to say, I've been enjoying his performances post-governorship, now that he's not big top-of-the-box-office-world movie star anymore. I like these older, grayer, darker, more sullen and melancholy Schwarzenegger roles, such as in
The Last Stand, Sabotage, Maggie and
Aftermath. They're much more interesting, nuanced, and flawed characters than, say, Harry Tasker, Jack Slater, or the Terminator.

Yeah, I agree.
Setting aside her politics, I think Meryl Streep is as good an actress as one can get. In any of her recent movies, I only see the character and have a hard time seeing Meryl Streep. Devil wears Prada, Julia Childs, etc.
