I liked it when i first came across it on angrymetalguy, and finally got the CD a few weeks ago. It's badass, and gets even better as it goes. I am terrible at the whole genre thing, but I'd call it death metal. Give it a look, if that's your thing.

I looked them up on YouTube. Yup, that's death metal.
(I still chuckle at a comment from a heavy metal-related Sigforum thread from several years back, where one member posted that they "liked some death metal bands, such as Disturbed". )

I can hardly hear the vocals and that’s a good thing. I guess I’m old. I just don’t get why all these bands hired Cookie Monster to sing for them. I love heavy stuff. I grew up listening to Slayer, Venom, Possessed, etc. I like loud screaming vocals but have no affinity for these fake guttural vocals.
These go to eleven.

Guttural growled vocals are a hallmark of the death metal subgenre.
Like you, I'm not a fan of most death metal vocals. But luckily, there's like eleventeen hundred other metal subgenres out there for us to enjoy that don't have oppressive amounts of death growls.

You don't have to tell me about death metal. I've been listening to it since I was 5 years old...
These go to eleven.

For sure. The vast majority of these bands are over-the-top. I like to think they know it's ridiculous, and it's all in good fun. Who knows though. I find that, depending on the type of person you are, you need to develop your own style of "separation", in order to enjoy some metal tunes. A good example, for me, is the fact that a lot of very good metal bands have satanic and/or anti-Christian themes; I am a Christian. It can be troubling at times.

You know who really rocks? Irreparable Groin Injury. I can't get enough of their smash hit Spontaneous Decapitation Spurting Blood.
The band keeps changing though. After every show, their drummer commits suicide on stage.
