I'm another who saw it in a theater when it came out.
Having lived in the era probably gives a different insight that others (younger folks) may not see the same way.
A very complex subject for sure.

Not quite that old, however:
Apocalypse Now, Lawrence of Arabia, 2001 Space Odyssey are the reasons I want a 120in Hi Def TV and a massive surround sound system
