Casablanca and The Godfather on big screen
Two of the best movies ever made are coming to select theaters in limited engagement. I bought my tickets.

While I have both movies on Blu-ray I haven't seen them on big screen...check that, I did see Casablanca at an art theater in Berkeley in 1982 but it was not shown in Dolby and the print quality was substandard. I am looking forward to these.

Whoah! I didn't even see that thread and I did a search...oh, I see what I did. I searched "Casablanca" only.

My mistake. Sorry.

No, I'm not chastising you for missing a 4 year old thread. That's not it at all. I wouldn't expect anyone to go looking for a years-old threads.

I'm pointing superficially to my comments in that thread.

Oh! Okay, now that I read through that thread I see what you are talking about.

Like you, I only previously watched The Godfather on "small screen" so I missed out on the original movie experience. I now wonder what it must have been like to have seen the original 35mm showing in a big movie theater.

I agree, too, that restoring the mono track is a step in the right direction, as the integrity of the director's vision is important. I wonder how much input, if any, Coppola had in this restoration, or the previous one.

When I go to this showing, I will look for the shadows and colors as you describe.

Thanks for your insight on this.

Thanks for the heads up. I had never seen Casablanca on the big scene. I went today and it was pretty cool. Never gets old. The audience was really into it and even clapped when it was over.

First movie I’ve seen at the theater in a while. I will have to check out some of the other special events.

Husband and I went to see Casablanca last night and enjoyed it tremendously. The picture and sound quality weren't the best, but being able to see the movie on a big screen made up for that. The audience in our theater clapped at the end, too.

What with the 'rona and all, this was the first movie we've been to since late 2019. The theater had maybe 20 people in it. Almost all were senior citizens, so no talking, no cell phones, no kids acting up. It was glorious! I was happy to see two guys who had to have been college age. It's nice to think that some young adults love the classics. Smile

Next up for us is The Quiet Man in March.
