Things We Learned From 1970s TV…

1. Karate chops to the neck easily knock people out.

2. A handkerchief over a phone receiver completely alters your voice.

3. Slow-motion means something is moving incredibly fast.

4. Car tires squeal on dirt.

5. Quicksand is everywhere.

6. “Upstairs” has one job and that’s to chew out police captains.

7. Police captains can only relay the fact they got chewed out by yelling.

I remember in a few shows/movies that an open handed smack to a guys temples will kill him.

EVERY motorcycle sounds like a Harley.

Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

Getting shot in the shoulder is no worse than a hangnail.
On the other hand, a thrown knife that penetrates an inch into someone's chest is instantly incapacitating and fatal.

Bullets always spark when they hit a passenger car but never penetrate or leave a mark

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

When firing a snubnose, one needs to punch forward to give that .38 that little extra oomph.

Being knocked unconscious by a blow to the skull is no biggie.

Firing guns in closed spaces never results in hearing damage.

Silencers work great on revolvers.

Drivers can make eye contact with the front seat passenger for a minute or more without causing an accident.

Most cars have very loose steering requiring constant, relatively large inputs to keep it in the lane.

Hitting the gas tank with a single round will cause it to explode with the force of 8 pounds of dynamite.

Hitting the car anywhere else will cause it to launch 20 feet in the air. It will always land on its roof.

Ford Pintos and Mustang II Ghias with the 4 cylinder engine are entirely hot pursuit ready.

The cool guys drank Olympia.

Looking into the business end of S&W Model 19s with the 2.5" barrel stopped fights without firing a round.

Real men used Right Guard spray.

Karate could get you out of any dangerous situation. You didn't have to actually know any karate. Just saying the word was enough.

Every bullet ricocheted, especially in westerns.

A single hand grenade looks like 20 pounds of dynamite going off and launches people 10 feet in the air.

You could punch a guy in the face and he'd be down for the count for the rest of the episode.

In all drama TV series that lasted for more than one season, there will be at least one episode where some or all of the main characters are held hostage.
