Heard this on the way home today and thought about how Joe Walsh was/is a really under-rated musician.
I was never a big fan of the Eagles and much prefer his solo stuff. I think the the Eagles as a group kind of overshadowed his solo career with Frey and Henley getting all the publicity and Joe was just the guitar player.
The guy put out some really good tunes. Another of my favorites:
Big fan. And, he's a long time ham radio guy, so how could you not like him?

Funk 49 an Rocky Mountain Way are two of my favorites - pure Joe
and the main riff in Life in the Fast Lane was a warm up exercise that he used to do until Frey heard it and wrote a song around it
he is a very under-rated guitarist

Yeah, same here. I’m pretty much have the Lebowski attitude toward the Eagles. I dig Joe Walsh a lot though. James Gang is probably my favorite stuff from Walsh.

I don’t mind the Eagles and really like Walsh. I’ve seen him live with a few different people performing in Nashville. The last one I remember was him playing at a Jimmy Buffet concert and also with Kenny Chesney.

I remember him in a concert a while back during his solo part and doing the intro to one of his songs by explaining that they claim he wrote it but hell if he can remember doing it.

I've always been a fan since the James Gang. The Smoker You Drink The Player You Get and You Can't Argue With A Sick Mind were a couple of my albums that got a lot of playing back in 70s. He turned out a lot of good music since then.

I don't think Walsh was "underrated", I think he was well respected and celebrated by musicians and fans alike. Sold a lot of records, had a great career with The Eagles. I loved his 'But Seriously Folks..." album and these two tracks:
Two interesting factoids- he's a big ham radio enthusiast and the famous 1959 Les Paul Sunburst guitar that Jimmy Page famously played originally belonged to Walsh.

Joe would play slow and perfect. Some guitarists play fast to cover up mistakes.
This came up in my youtube feed today - I'm a long time fan of both

I’ve got the first 3 albums of the James Gang in my collection. I haven’t played any of them in a long, long time; I guess I should.

RIP Jimmy. That sounds like a fun show. We saw Kenny in San Jose and he brought out Sammy Hagar who lives in the Bay Area and Hagar did a few songs including I can’t drive 55 and changed to lyrics for “get to San Jose” instead of “get to LA “ so that was funny. Crowd Went wild
