I like artsy-fartsy movies. This one takes the cake. Pretty damn disturbing. Basically a woman who is a serial killer bangs a car, gets knocked up, chaos ensues. If you like absurdly disturbing foreign movies, check it out.

I thought it was okay. One thing's for sure, writer-director Julia Ducournau's idea of car porn is vastly different from mine! The flick flirts with disturbing body horror, but then it becomes quaint-disturbing, if there is such a genre. It starts as a car obsession story, shifts gears (pun intended) to a serial killer tale, but finally settles into an off-beat mistaken identity drama. All that car stuff and killings just fall by the wayside.
The pregnancy angle is pretty silly, but I admire the sheer determination of the director and actors to sell the idea with complete dead-serious poker faces. There is some random nuttiness that undermines the darker tones of the narrative. I have to wonder about the mental health of Agathe Rousselle's character in a world where there seems to be no sane citizens at all. Perhaps she's quite rational in that world. If nothing else, at least Titane is a respite from the base fast-food cinema churned out by Hollywood studios. I love Ducournau's depiction of French firefighter life. Better and wackier than Backdraft!

Exactly why I'm drawn to these types of films. I consider all of the superhero movies to be man-child garbage, the remakes to be lackluster, and the forced "wokeism" of movies like "The Old Guard" to be nauseating.
