It seems like there are two kinds of Bill Murray movies

The kind that are great and no one else is imaginable in the role

and

Those that are just unwatchable.

I can't think of any that don't fall in one of these two categories.

I'm sure the Wes Anderson movies fall under Category 1, but I can't stand watching them.

You didn’t like Rushmore? I understand some don’t like Life Aquatic but Rushmore was hilarious and Bill made the film. I’ll never forget he’s in the Jag picking up the red headed braces wearing twins from school and the one in the back seat starts mouthing off and Bill Murray turns around immediately and clocks him. It was so damn funny the other kid in the front seat broke character and started laughing it was that funny. And then Bill is in 80’s style Budweiser swim trunks at the pool, I mean so many scenes.

Yep. Chevy Chase comes to mind. I have heard that Murray is quite the asshole in person. Not unusual for some of these celebrities.

I just watched Ghostbusters a couple of days ago and you can actually see the other actors react negatively when Murray is on camera.

Honestly after Caddy Shack which he was spectacular, there haven't been any that come even close.
None that either he was in or starred.
Caddy Shack was great on so many levels that it just elevates everyone that was in it.

Lost in Translation is Murray's best role IMO. It's even Murray's personal favorite film of his own.

But it's not a typical Bill Murray film, and not even really a comedy.

IMO, Bill Murray was at his best paired with Harold Ramis. Ghostbusters, Meatballs, Stripes, Groundhog Day, etc. Harold Ramis knew how to make Murray at his funniest.

Reportedly, he was such an asshole to many people, including Ramis; the two had a falling out after Groundhog Day, not speaking for decades until Ramis was on his deathbed. Lost in Translation is a fantastic movie and Bill was in it doing a good job.
We think of him as a funny man and that twists our perception a bit.

What about Bob was excellent. He was at the top of his game there.

His other movies i saw when i was a kid and wonder how much of my innocence worked in his favor.

Had no regular access to SNL.
