I have been a fan of this game since the first one came out many many many years ago on the original Sony PlayStation. It’s where my love of JDM vehicles was born.
Being a sucker for racing movies I would be lying if I didn’t admit I am pretty exited about this film.

I'll see it when it's on streaming, don't think I want to chance my $ on being disappointed.
It's based on the real life events of the GT esports contest in the early 2000s. Something like 10 winners got to go to Nissan racing school & the top of that got a 1 year racing contract.
Talking with a friend at work. Car racing esports might be the only one where it actually can translate into reality.
We couldn't think of another instance where it could work. You win the Madden esports contest, you're not starting a game with the Cowboys, for instance.
I'm cautiously optimistic about it being good, but have my doubts on it being a hit for most people.

Well since no one is ever going to make a screen play based on Mat Oxley’s Stealing Speed I’ll have to settle for this. I think it might be good. If a talented screen play writer took Oxley’s book (based on real events) it could inject some life into the dying motorcycle industry. The story reads like a James Bond novel at times.
I’m going to see it this weekend if possible with my kids. I am not sure about my son but I think my daughters will love it. My two youngest girls are not gamers like my son but they LOVE and I mean LOVE my “loud car that rides low and is easy to climb into”.
The other day while leaving the pool I should have found a way to video them sitting in the back of the Integra all smiles talking about how much they love the loud sound it makes and how it rides. They get that from me!!

Keep us posted, my girls come & go on the car stuff. The older 2 have enjoyed rides in the Midget, but they aren't into watching F1 with me anymore.

My daughters watch MotoGP with me. My son won’t watch it even if I paid him too. Oddly enough my wife became a HUGE MotoGP fan after watching Hitting the Apex.

Similar here. Drive to Survive & attending 2 races got my wife into F1, but she's since lost interest again. MotoGP does nothing for her but I enjoy it, just wish more of it was televised like F1

It has potential, but I'll wait until disc. It looks like I'm done with theaters this year since Dune Part 2 got moved to March (which means I might see it on a full size IMAX screen on vacation).

Haven't seen it, but what I've heard wasn't flattering. A lot of you have to suspend your disbelief kind of comments. I agree it'll probably have to wait for a streaming release for me to see it.

Wow, March now? Damn. I was so looking forward to the 4k disc for Christmas. That sucks. Will be next summer now
Love the GT game but same as you, will wait for the disc or streaming.

At least I can plan a trip to Branson on my birthday to see Dune on one of the full size IMAX Laser Screens since the entire film was shot in 1.44:1 and have a general good time.

I LOVED it!
Yes, Nissan gets a LOT of love in this film but Honda fanboys are going to smile at the opening sequence.
The hardcore race enthusiasts probably will nitpick it to hell for its historical inaccuracies and it’s bias towards Gran Turismo over other games.
What they maybe don’t realize is that stories like this are incredibly important because they bring new blood and new interest to the world of racing. Without enthusiastic fans racing dies.
The audience cheered a few times during the film.
As long as you realize you are not watching a documentary and if you’re a gear head I think you’ll like it.
Archie Madekwe and David Harbour put on a pleasantly surprising performance. Djimon Hounsou was a great cast as the father of Jann Mardenborough and Orlando Bloom played the slimy businessman role pretty well.
I had a lot of fun and I’m glad I saw it in the theater. My son, daughter and wife all loved it too!

My whole family looked over at me during the sequence with aerial shots of The Red Bull Ring. They know I adore that track.
My son said it was better than Top Gun Maverick. My daughter disagreed but said she still enjoyed the movie. Wifey said she liked it a lot more than she was expecting so I suppose they did right by non hardcore racing enthusiasts.
The hardcore nerds will find much to bitch about but I would ask them if they would rather sit through a fast and furious 19 movie. I sure wouldn’t and they certainly could have done worse. It exceeded my expectations.

What would you say is the low end age wise for this movie? Could an 8 year old watch it?
August 27, 2023, 07:10 PM
stickman428
Yes absolutely. There is no reason they could not watch it. The crash scenes are not even close to being as brutal as the average MotoGP race or NASCAR race.
1980’s films like The Goonies went a hell of a lot harder in he paint than Gran Turismo as far as age appropriateness. I wouldn’t worry at all.
I’d have no issues bringing my 6 year old to watch it. I think she would really like the movie. I’m not sure it would hold my 3 year old daughters attention the whole time but I wouldn’t think the content would be an issue or reason not to take her. I’d be more concerned about the run time for anyone under 6.
I took my 13 year old son and 11 year old daughter today and they both enjoyed it. The younger chirruns missed out but that was because they already had plans for a fun day at the pool with friends.

Mrs Highlander and I saw last weekend during the sneak preview. We had a great time. It was a highly enjoyable couple of hours. The filming of the racing sequences was fantastic. Highly recommend the movie and suggest you see it on the big screen.

Well, this comment and the comments by David Harbour's character in the trailer make me question professional race car drivers' qualifications as elite athletes.

No doubt there is some athleticism required, at least for my preference of F1. They're pulling high G loads through the turns & it puts a lot of strain on your neck for sure. Last year, one of the teams had to have a sub driver stand in as their main driver had appendicitis. The stand-in was so worn out at the end of the race, that he couldn't get himself out of the car.
The older cars were even more difficult to drive, smaller, more powerful & very little assistance. F1 has power steering now, I think IndyCar does not.
