parabellumJim Thompson's Pop. 1280 coming to the screen soon
Just ran across
this, and I'm delighted. Helluva good crime story; darkly comedic.
In 1981, Bertrand Tavernier directed a French language version of
Pop. 1280 entitled
Coup de Torchon (Clean Slate) but I have seen only a portion of this film and it wasn't subtitled, so I didn't get much out of it. Tavernier's version moves the setting of the story from America to French Colonial West Africa in the 1930s.
Anyway, hopefully all this COVID crap doesn't delay the production of this film. If you like crime dramas, this one might turn out to be a doozy. Thompson's anti-heroes are interesting characters.
