Mellencamp is from Southern Indiana (Seymour to be exact). When I was a Purdue student, I dated a gal (oops baby) whose much older brother personally knew Mellencamp. The brother thought Mellencamp was room temp IQ and the drugs didn't help. It wasn't a conservative vs liberal thing either as the older brother was liberal.

OK! So it sounds like JCM has gone the way of that shithead Springsteen. Now they can both go FOAD. Too bad...I really liked Mellencamp's music. Never did really care for the original shithead, Springsteen's screeching.
