I recall seeing him on "Hee-Haw" a good bit, often playing tunes with Roy Clark. Not famous famous, but renowned in country and bluegrass circles.

He played a good number of other instruments and invented the electric banjo (a long time ago). Dude was smart as a whip and immensely talented.

Don't let HeeHaw fool you, Buck was an incredible musician, and no fool either.
