I doubt anyone here actually thinks this, but....

F1 talking heads are building up Vegas attendance as a major success, and how great the race spectacle is, if not the track.
Looking at these November desert nighttime temperatures I don't see how/why they would renew the Vegas contract, absent major changes.

Does the Vegas race make money for F1? That’s the answer.

I believe it does if they can keep the storm drains to stay put.

In this case, I don't think FOM cares because they are the promoter for this event and want this event more for snob appeal than anything else. Something catastrophic like no one in the seats would have to happen to not renew the event for Liberty Media, although the Las Vegas natives wouldn't mind it disappearing.

More full wet running today, than we've seen in a long time.
With how red flag happy they get when it's wet, I'm shocked they let them out.

McLaren’s disqualified at Vegas. Excessive wear on planks is once again a problem. Very limited running in practice was their defense but the officials didn’t buy it. Max is back in with a more realistic chance now.
Max is tied with Oscar for 2nd with 2 races [and a sprint] to go.
Really impressed Kimi held the net 3rd in the race. He got lucky the pace dropped off of his pusuers.

The plank wear was very minimal but the fact that the team told Lando to coast on the last few laps indicated they knew there was a wear issue. I’m happy that the stewards went by the book and didn’t believe any excuses that McLaren tried to proffer.

Plank wear seems to be a black/white issue, close doesn't count. You can bet that if they gave a tolerance of .1mm beyond the 9MM, everyone would run with that in mind. That probably wasn't the reason he slowed so much in the last few laps. That was more likely a fuel calculation issue since they are required to have a specified quantity left (1L?) for compliance testing after the race and that's also strictly enforced.
^ Same with Kimi's jump start. Sky commentary said it was almost imperceptible without slo-mo.

I had a thought last night. I tried to look it up, to no avail.
How much, in Vegas, was the payout on a bet of a double DNF for McLaren?

I'm gonna guess not crazy high. Two equal cars driven by the (then) two major contenders for WDC, on a slippery track, and a small history of sharpish elbows. Now double DNF for failing post race inspection? Higher odds for sure.

Well, that's gonna leave a mark!
I said during the race "Watch, Max is going to figure out a way to win the WDC." Little did I know this was coming....
