A week ago the rumors were that Fred was about to get his walking papers.
Ferrari resigns him for two years.

That quashes the Horner to Ferrari rumors, I suppose.

Ferrari never wanted any of that anyway.

Horner isn't going anywhere that won't give him a piece of team ownership. After his time at Red Bull, he's not going to make it easy to fire him again. What keeps coming up is him possibly going to Alpine as they need a full rebuild and since they've been selling pieces of the team, there's no reason to think they wouldn't sell him a piece.

I'd seen a few mentions about Horner/Flavio buying Alpine.
Also a not so serious mention of Aston being sold this week & maybe Horner bought it.

I believe the only way Horner gets back into F1 is as a (minority) owner. Allegedly Bernie is willing to back him. My thoughts are that they will try to acquire Alpine because even though several key members of Red Bull went to AM they went for a reason and I’m not sure Adrian and company would want to work for him again…JMHO.

Flavio + Horner would be an interesting pairing.

Wow Aston Martin ate their Wheaties this am with both cars making into Q3!

I heard they had a newly designed front wing. Maybe Adrian Newey is starting to have some positive influences

A lot to think about for a number of people over the summer break.
A predictable and not too exciting race for the first 2/3rd then more eventful in the end.
The least happy, Charles Leclerc.
Max and Lewis unhappy but for mostly different reasons. Ironic that they end up in a scrap and a possible penalty fighting for not much.
Russell and Alonso had something to be happy about. Both ended up doing better than most would have expected.

Definitely a day to forget for LH. Thought he might be able to make some ground on the 1-stop.

McLaren had a lucky day, almost a RBR/Baku repeat.

A little surprised it was so difficult to pass, don't recall it being that hard in past years. Seemed if you had DRS, the car behind didn't have much of a chance. Kept LH stranded in a train for a lot of the race.

I'm not realy a LeClerc fan, but I got to feel for him this weekend. He proclaims that Hungary is his worst track, earns Pole Position and then doesn't get a Podium. I don't know what happened, but he was on the radio asking what Ferrari did to the car during the race. I feel like the strategy team at Ferrari sometimes F things up.

Just saw on F1Now that Aston Martin, the car company, just sold their 4.6% stake in Aston Martin F1 team for $146 million to a mystery buyer...

The scuttlebutt is that it's Christian Horner!

It makes sense considering that Horner is on "Gardening Leave" and not allowed to work in F1 until January 2026.

This could be a dream team with all the major components and Strolls financial backing providing what Lawrence has always wanted... a championship winning team...

Some speculation about plank wear and tire pressures. Ferrari were DQ'd earlier this season for ride height, changes seem to coincide with Hammy's loss of form BTW. What happened to CL at Hungary could be an already compromised setup changing enough with wear to ruin the car's performance. Once again, just speculation.

I felt sorry for LeClerc. He was ringing the tail of that Ferrari and driving his heart out. Something on the car just went away, and he lost the handle. He was some kind of pissed.....these fellas are sooooo competitive!!

George Russell hints at Ferrari disqualification risk after Charles Leclerc issues at Hungarian GP

Lydia Mee Aug 3, 2025 at 11:46 AM

George Russell has discussed Charles Leclerc's severe drop in pace during the Hungarian Grand Prix, explaining that he could have been running the car too low and risked a disqualification for excessive plank wear.

Leclerc started the race at the Hungaroring from pole position and had a strong first stint. He retained his lead at the start and kept a strong pace until pitting from the lead on the 41st lap. After that point, the Monegasque driver complained over the team radio, stating that he had "lost all competitiveness."

"This is so incredibly frustrating. We have lost all competitiveness, you just have to listen to me," he said to his race engineer Bryan Bozzi. "I would have found a different way of managing those issues. Now it's just undriveable. It's a miracle if we finish on the podium."

Although the reason for his drop in performance has not been explained by Ferrari, Russell, who finished the race in third ahead of Leclerc in fourth, gave his verdict on the situation while speaking to Sky Sports F1.

"Well, I saw how slow he was, so I presumed something was not right," the Briton explained.

"The only thing we can think of is they were running the car too low to the ground, and they had to increase the tyre pressures for the last stint because they were using an engine mode that was making the engine slower at the end of the straight, which is where you have the most amount of plank wear."

When told that Leclerc had said that it was related to the chassis, Russell added: "He's not going to tell you that they're close to being illegal. That's the only thing we can think of based upon the lap times and the engine mode they were running and stuff like that, but nevertheless, really pleased with the result.

"Strange weekend when you look at it, if you exclude McLaren and you look at the order of sort of P3 to P13, it's quite odd. You wouldn't expect Max to be so far down. Aston had an amazing weekend, so we'll take the positives. We won't get carried away with them."

Now that I think of it, didn't Leclerc mention the car was "clipping" towards the end of the straight, very early in the race (for those that might not know, clipping is a term for the electrical power cutting at a set limit)? Or was it someone else?

DAMN!
If true, that puts the market cap for the whole team at $3.17B!! That minority stake must have come at a real premium, those figures are bonkers.

"clipping"

Speculation by George and others after was that could be part of an effort to reduce plank wear by reducing top end, combined with higher tire pressure in 3rd stint. I guess all that could fall under the indicated heading of "chassis problem....."
