Australian qualifying results..

1. Norris

2. Piastri

3. Verstappen

The qualifying was very tight and resulted in some surprises like Tsunoda qualifying 5th…

Glad to see both McLs on the front row.
Tsunoda definitely the shocker, along with both Williams in Q3 & neither Aston.

Formula One teams need to advise the officials on how to improve the process to pick up crashed cars much quicker.
The teams can now do two second pit stops but the delay during the safety car incidents was painful to watch.

How pissed off would your team owner/team principal be if you crash out during the FORMATION lap?

Sainz gave those rookies some cover when he crashed out.

Fun race to watch, not so fun for the drivers, I’m sure.

It was cool that Mr. Hamilton was there to greet Isaak and give him some fatherly words. Going out on the formation lap was not how he wanted his first outing to go. That being said, those Mclaren boys are fast! Red Bull better get back in the lab and figures stuff out.
There was a Valtteri sighting! He has to stand behind Toto all year, I felt bad for Mick when he had to do it.

It's tough at the first race of the year and no one has had any laps driving the new car in the wet...I don't think anyone went out in the rain during pre-season testing.

It is said that Sainz spin was caused by a software issue in their "rain" setting shifting and applying an unexpected amount of torque.

Alonso's spin later was caused by Gasly dropping a wheel off the track in front of Alonso and throwing a bunch of gravel onto the track...Alonso didn't have time to avoid the gravel

Let’s ask Lawrence. Double points for son doing it….

Great race start to finish.

What fun, a proper clusterfuck and non-stop tension. A great start to a new season. Piastri taking Lew on the outside for 9th was as good a pass as I've seen.

Which Senna was obviously really good at.

Forget who, but one driver hit the wall behind the safety car!

But let’s give credit to Kimi Antonelli. As a rookie he did remarkably well finishing 5th.

I think he was promoted back to 4th & the penalty was overturned.

Big Grin

Agreed, not a boring race.
Bummer for Oscar, Lando got lucky.

I almost forgot since I was so tired last night when I watched it. We were up way past bedtime due to the predicted storm with tornadoes that didn't happen here.
That pass of Lewis should make the highlight films for sure. Credit to both for such close racing without any damage.

That's an impressive drive that went largely unnoticed until the end. There was very little coverage of young Kimi during the event.

Also an honorable mention to Anthony Hamilton for his fatherly treatment of Isaac Hadjar on his walk back to the pits. He drove well up through qualifying and had to be crushed by that crash. Marko should take some lessons but I guess he just doesn't have it in him.

It was close enough that Oscar left Lewis's right front wing end plate askew...it wasn't a bigger issue because it was the last lap and Lew didn't lose any other places

However Oscar was able to demonstrate a skill I've never seen before in F1...the ability to get unstuck and back on track after sinking into the grass runoff

That was impressive, and to make it back to 9th after being stuck so long, passing Lewis in the process.

To be fair, Mr. Hamilton didn’t have any skin in that situation.
