Norris isn't going to be very happy with Macca strategy, but they wanted the points to overhaul A/M and I'm sure the first lap was still in the back of their minds

Lando definitely had pace, but not likely enough to close down Max, so holding position makes sense from the team, WCC, perspective.

On the Friday night after practice show, about midnight local time at the track, all three of the announcers were dripping sweat standing still after being in an air conditioned room. When Sargent stood trying to get out of his car, water was running out of his suit, like he had pee’d himself. Those guys trained for this but still had problems. The locals walk around in their white robes an don’t appear to sweat at all.
I am a Merc fan… with the exception of Lewis Hamilton.
Once again he proved Fernando Alonso right, “this guy only knows how to drive and start in first.”
Of course, in typical Hamilton fashion, he immediately claimed he was “taken out by my own teammate.” Later, after looking at videotape, he did take responsibility for sandwiching George Russell.
But, that doesn’t excuse just pure idiotic racing by Hamilton. Hamilton had a clear view of both cars on his right and STILL turned into his own teammate trying to take a racing line that simply was not there. Inexcusable decision-making by an experienced driver who should know better… hell, an inexperienced driver knows better!
I just can’t fathom how Hamilton’s mind works.

Wow, we obviously saw Sergeant wasn't well Max & Oscar both exhausted in the post-race interview & cooldown room. Saw a few onboards of drivers venting the visor to get some air, and George put his hands up to direct some air into the cockpit, at nearly 200mph.

A couple of things folks overlook when talking about how hot it was.
1. It wasn't a "dry heat" that folks usually think of in the desert, the humidity was apparently quite high (70%) during the night time race
2. Even though the race was at night and the sun wasn't beating down on them, the cars had been exposed to the ambient heat all day and the drivers were sitting in essence in ovens
Formula One needs more teams and fewer races and should welcome Michael Andretti's entry bid as good for business and the spirit of the sport, according to FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
The Emirati told Reuters at the Qatar Grand Prix he was optimistic the American's planned 11th team with General Motors' Cadillac brand would make it to the starting grid despite opposition from existing competitors.

That track is a disaster from a design point. - the track is completely flat with virtually no elevation changes - the “corners” are just paint on tarmac. There is nothing to give the drivers visual cues as to what’s to come up - the blowing sand and extremely high humidity we’re extremely hard to endure even though the drivers are all top atheletes.
It wouldn’t bother me to not go back there (although I understand there was enough $ thrown to F1 for them to look the other way).

If I heard correctly, Qatar will be moved to the 2nd last round, to push it later/less heat in the season & remove some logistics complications of going from ME to the America's & back to ME for Abu Dhabi.

Just my take on the Hamilton Russell 1st lap incident.
Hamilton, Alonso, Max have colossal egos. I think you have too. At times When Max has to race from back in the field he would race aggressively and it seems that most (not all) would not challenge his pass. I think when you are at the top, consistently at the front you come to rely on this.
I do not believe that a) Hamilton believes Russell has earned the right to be his equal. b) He fully anticipated Russell would yield. It is instinctual. and when they collided, he blames his teammate because "why was he still there?" Russell also has a colossal ego and did not yield the position, nor should he. I guess my thought is that the other drivers dont always race them as aggressively.
Now back to watching the Braves lose game two.

^ Not a bad analysis. I put the blame on Hamilton, it was GR's corner, and I wouldn't expect him to yield, especially T1 of lap 1. Was pretty surprised GR didn't have any pace hindering damage, considering how LH's car looked & the bits flying off.

Alonso wasn’t even involved. He was a ways behind the Max, Lewis, and George. It was actually Max’s corner. He was on the inside and ahead of George. At best, George only got to half a car length to the side of Max. Lewis was about even with Max, about half a car length in front of George. The accident happened because Lewis clearly turned in on George. Not sure whether Lewis thought he was farther ahead of George, or assumed the George would back out, but it’s 100% on Lewis. How he didn’t get penalized for causing a collision is beyond me.

I think redstone was just lumping Alonso in as one of the 'big ego' drivers. LH likely escaped penalty due to being DNF & GR was able to continue on. Probably chalked up as a 'racing incident'.
I seem to recall they [stewards] give a slight relax in the first lap or 2 on hard racing, unless it's blatant.

Sure didn't look like a very large fan base. I think they showed 120,000 for the weekend. Didn't even seem to be much in the way of grandstands. But with enough money....
