I'm a big Puccini fan. I couldn't find a good version of Maria Callas, but Katherine Jenkins will do in a pinch. Razz

Great post, Jim. This is an underappreciated work. I sometimes had students who sang this for voice juries, and I was always pleased to hear it.

Beautiful.

One thing that impressed me was the audience. No whistling, cheering, "whoo-hoos", etc. You could hear a pin drop and they waited until the very end to applaud. There were two pauses after she hit a long, high note; one at 2:45 and one at 4:55. It seems these days that if this had been in a large outdoor venue in the U.S., a lot of folks would be making all manner of noise during those pauses. A piece of music such as this should never be interupted; one should always wait for the end and then applaud appropriately. In other words, act like you've been there! Sorry for the extra rant but that was a very large audience and they behaved perfectly.
