The Mighty MO ship saves planet earth
Some election day distraction entertainment from the Sci Fi movie Battleship. Turns out old technology saves the day as aliens have landed on earth and effectively neutralized all defenses, or so they thought. Some cheesy acting but IMO a fun movie without complex plot if you can relax, suspend reality, and take it for what it is.

If I am not mistaken they actually took the Missouri out for a ride. That must have been a sight to see.

An interesting idea presented in the movie is how they track submarines using buoys.

But yea not the greatest movie ever made but Brooklyn Deckers in it!

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!

I know I shouldn't. I'm a history major, so it's really hard for me to enjoy military movies. The plot is entirely impossible, there is NO WAY the Missouri could be made ready to sail in the time shown (it would take longer than that to get up steam in the ship when she was actually in commission), the movie ignores the fact that there are thousands of Navy personnel on the island of Oahu at any given time, and the main character would never be allowed to be a Navy officer (that 'join the Navy in lieu of prison' bit MIGHT work for enlisted, but not the officers).

But, it works for me. It's a fun cheesy popcorn flick that I enjoy the heck out of every time I see it.
Liam Neeson has a great performance, the action scenes are compelling, LOTS of stuff goes 'splodey, and I get to rock out to AC/DC while watching the Mighty Mo kick *ss one last time.

And, yeah, the aliens do resemble fetterman Smile.

This is definitely one of my fun watch movies. Just what I need once in a while to give a nice endorphin rush.

I watch that move every summer, I never get tired of it. It's pure action fun from beginning to end, and you sleep better knowing you kicked alien ass with a big mother effin black powder shell, and you got an Admiral's daughter in the end. That's a pretty good day for any red blooded American male.

I have to admit to having watched this movie maybe 20 times, frequently pairing it with Battle Los Angeles and/or Independence Day. Nothing better than watching ugly aliens getting their butts kicked while chowing down on some extra heavily buttered popcorn.
