Legendary skydiver Felix Baumgartner, best known for free fall from space, dies in paragliding accident
Seem like yesterday I watched his free fall stunt.Linkto story

Felix Baumgartner, the Austrian skydiver best known for his record-setting dive from space, died in a paragliding accident in Italy Thursday, according to Italian officials. He was 56.

Baumgartner was reportedly flying a motorized paraglider in the coastal town of Porto Sant'Elpidio in the Marche region of Italy, where he was said to have crashed into a hotel pool.

You do enough high-risk actives long-enough, the chances of things not working right or, going beyond what's a reasonable-risk continues to rise. For some its a simple chance of an accident, too many things lined-up that equaled a bad outcome, for others its complacency and recklessness.
Being the first human to break the sound barrier outside of a vehicle...pretty cool achievement.

2 things. Does skydiving make you an athlete? I’m not saying you can’t be an athletic skydiver but is athlete the correct descriptor?

And secondly this might actually be the first correct usage of the term he died doing what he loved. Other than anybody who died while having sex of course. So him and pudgy guys.

Well, at his age of 56, doing all the daredevil stuff was bound to catch up to him!

I'm with you, the news article says daredevil which I think is a far more apt description. I consider sports players athletes, this and stunt work as daredevils and then I guess we will make something up for fishing, race car driving and curling. Not taking anything away from them, I just dont consider the title to be athlete. I am suprised that he was 56 for some reason. Thes short as hell but for a daredevil I almost want to say its not terrible.
