Oz_ShadowArtemis Fowl
If you have read the books, my understanding is you will likely hate this movie.
I have not.
Overall decent but seems geared more toward a younger crowd. It’s like Harry Potter and Men in Black squished together but not anywhere near as good as either.
Worth watching to pass a couple hours but I wouldn’t pay for it on its own.
Don’t expect much and try not to overthink it.

hudrI watched it last night with my oldest girl. Been a while since we’ve read the books. It seemed...rushed...for the most part.
it’s been a while since reading the books but we both felt like they tried to cram elements from all the books into one movie but still leave it open for a sequel.
The ending had more of a “hey, we’re over budget on CGI, so we need to wrap this up”. Even though it seemed to take FOREVER before “roll credits” after the Final Battle(?).
I figure we might get a series or maybe a miniseries out of it, but probably not a LOTR style movie trilogy.
Or, it will fade away into obscurity like “Eragon” and “Avatar:The last Airbender”

goatboyzMy wife and I both loved the books (we're in our late thirties/early forties) as adults. We both wanted to like this, but about 10 minutes in, we had to suspend the notion that it was from the storyline least it would be completely wasted.
To say it disappointed is the understatement of the century. Dispensing with it being an Artemis Fowl movie, we still found it to be lacking any real story or character development with some big gaps that made you wonder how "this" got you to "that"...

LoswsmithRe: the books - I hated them but my wife and boys loved them. They were super excited about the movie, I was happy that I wouldn't have to shell out cash for four tickets plus snacks at the local Metroplex.
The verdict: I didn't hate it.
1)It suffered a lot from "no gunitis" as all the weapons looked nothing like guns or were melee weapons when in the books there were firearms galore (Butler carried a Sig Sauer).
2) It suffered from "franchise-itis" in that it was clear that they wanted to make more than one movie.
3) The CGI was crap
4) They deviated a lot from the books. I'm not a stickler for this because its hard to make a "shot for shot" movie from a book, but this had some holes.
5) There was a ton of "magical" reasoning (and I know basically the whole movie was magic). What I mean is, Artemis is looking for clues in this vast library and opens a random book and it spells out everything. That sort of thing.
BUT - I expected worse and it would not be painful to have to watch it again, which I expect I have to do with my kids.

DSgrouseI posted about this circa 2016/early 2017. With the first trailer that was out. It was so poorly reviewed I think it went back for a major redo. I think Disney majorly worried it would tank like John Carter. Which IMHO was a good movie. Not great but good.
So, having heard there were 2 or three previous dates of release. I was not expecting much. My wife and I found it to be a good popcorn flick. I have only read the first 2 books, and that was 13 years ago. SO...

RinehartI read the books when my boys did. I thought it had interesting possibilities if brought correctly to film. However- they completely missed what/who made the Artemis Fowl character.
In the books Artemis was clever and a mastermind at- well, crime. Not clear in the film, really, although it's mentioned later.
They condensed events across essentially 5 books in the first 30 minutes of the film. Most young kids would like it- Unfortunately, it was Disneyed.
