Not sure what concert I was at one year ago, probably Turnpike Troubadours and Red Clay Strays, but the sound board guys had this one on the mix tape between bands at the concert. I hadn’t thought of it in a long time. Nailed the chorus!

Wow, what a trio! Rizzle, never seen that before: Charlie Louvin, backed by Vern Gosdin and Emmylou—beautiful.

When I see her in her younger days I'm always in awe. Some people just do it for you and to me she's an all time classic beauty. Emmylou Harris is 78 years old and still beautiful.

Amen, brother.

Never have seen that one before either, Rizzle. Loved her since the day I first heard “Boulder to Birmingham,” these many years ago.

A pretty neat little tune, whether done by the Ray Conniff Singers, the writer (Ned Miller), or Skeeter and Bobby...

I listened to the entire Nashville Now episode that rizzle linked above with Emmylou Harris, Charlie Louvin, and Vern Gosdin. Ralph Emory showed this color film of the Louvin Brothers.

Emmylou Harris really loved the music of the Louvin Brothers, and credit goes to Gram Parsons for introducing her to their music.

Ira is the tall, mandolin player with the beautiful tenor voice. Charlie is the guitar player who sings low harmony. I think this is a really great song.

They sang only gospel for a long time, then began to sing and record what they called "secular music" later. Charlie said it was because on the Opry they could sing only one gospel song, but if they sang Country, they could sing two.

Ira had a hard time walking the path. He was notorious for his drinking and bad temper. Married four times, he was shot several times in the chest and hand by his third wife after she said he beat her. He was killed in a car wreck in Missouri by a drunken driver, while a warrant was out for his arrest for DUI.

How crazy... I'm well familiar with this song, sung by countless artists. And I've been hearing Marty Robbins since I was an infant, but up until a few minutes ago I can't recall ever hearing him sing this song.

Followed by the Youtube deep dive, so many versions of it.
Oddly my favorite version is one by Don Edwards, a slower, simpler, sadder version that doesn't seem to be on Youtube. (there's a few by him, but not the one I'm most familiar with and like the most)

And that always leads me to Ian Tyson.

Cas, “Night Rider’s Lament” is probably my favorite western song. I’ve always favored Suzy Bogguss’ cover of it, I just like the way she sings it.

It's got a real Townes Van Zandt ring to it. I kept thinking of Tecumseh Valley while I was listening to it. Yeah, I know, I ain't wired right.
