Well sure, after I read that I couldn't get the song out of my head. (Yes, I'm beating you to death with all the Don Williams.)

Fun memory of this song.. summer of 2000 I was on a cross country drive with a friend and I brought a few cassette tapes with old country music on it. My friend was newer to country music, but he was familiar with the Sawyer Brown cover of the song. He was driving when it came on and I knew he'd likely never heard it, so I watched his face waiting for a reaction. Because of the different sound, and the huge difference in tempo, it took him all the way to the second line of the chorus to recognize it. His eyes got wide and he went "Oh my God! That's a remake? It's so slow!" Big Grin

I really like Paulette Carlson’s voice. You’ll see the late Roger Miller in this video, he co-wrote the song.

The threads getting too long to check back through it.

ETA: I really don’t need another electric guitar, but if I came across a deal on a Danelectro Longhorn, I would be sorely tempted.

Just bought tickets for next March to see the Bellamy Brothers in concert. I saw John Anderson a few years ago. Been a long time fan and looking forward to seeing them live.

I’ve always said that of the pure Country female vocalists, Tammy Wynette was the best. I’m not so sure that when the 90s rolled around that Patty Loveless didn’t surpass her.

This is so moving. I’ve played it for myself many times. The memorial service upon the death of George Jones. Vince Gill sings his now iconic “Go Rest High On That Mountain,” accompanied by Patty Loveless. Vince becomes overcome with emotion and Patty picks up the flag and carries it forward. One of the great moments in music history.

I'll color a little bit outside the lines (if I haven't posted this already at some point in this thread lol), since despite being in country music for 50+ years, this song wasn't a country song. But I just heard it on the ancient iPod wired into my car stereo, so it's on my mind.

One of his bigger country hits..

Cas, I’m reading a book now called, “A Personal Country,” A.C. Greene. It’s about West Texas, and Abeline, the boyhood home of the author. Abeline, Texas was named for Abeline, Kansas, and it’s founder hoped for a measure of the success of the Kansas town at the end of the Chisholm Trail. The Texas town has far surpassed its namesake in growth in the years since its founding. A.C. Greene is a great writer and if your interested in West Texas history (the book was first published in 1969) I can recommend it. Now, back to our regular programming.

When I was just a young guy, living in the Denver area, I worked at a car dealership. I had bought a Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys boxed-set anthology and happened to mention it to one of the other mechanics there. I made an instant friend. He was called Arky, and you can guess where he was from. He had met his wife at a Bob Wills dance. Pleasant memory.
