Insulation reccs please
I have a 12' x 24' A-frame shed in the hills of W NC. What are the best and most affordable wall insulation options? Want to use it as a makeshift cabin eventually.

Want to insulate between the 2x4 studs and then panel on top of the 2x4s.

-Pink fiberglas (will rodents burrow in and nest...I assume yes and once the paneling is up...bno way to extract)

-Foam board (seems pricey at first glance)

-Spray on closed cell foam (is there a DIY option for this?)

I saw one DIY channel that used 2-3" foam board and then secured in place with "Great Stuff" brand spray in place foam adhesive insulation

Thanks!

JB

Probably the wrong forum but I'll give it a bump. Almost certainly more replies if posted in the Lounge.

As you probably know... "best and most affordable" rarely go together.

Options for insulation

2x4 construction so your maximum depth is 3.5"

R15 insulation is usually your maximum R value when using fiberglass or mineral wool.

Here is a perfect example of what you should use https://www.homedepot.com/p/Ow...8-Bags-K76/205469657 or https://www.homedepot.com/p/Ow...ags-883053/306601486

Foam Board although being thick does not have a good R value.

Spray foam is great but you would need a lot of it and it is expensive without being high in R value as well.

To help with keeping pests out I would use spray foam around the edges in each 24" section then the mineral wool insulation in the bay.

Thanks all

I didnt post in main forum as this is kind of a hobby effort.

Does the insulation need facing on the wall side?

If you are going to condition the space (heat or AC) eventually, yes you should vapor barrier the inside of the studs (insulation outside the vb).

If you use mineral wool insulation then no, it technically does not require a vapor barrier. If you use fiberglass then yes.

I would install one anyways, you can use cheap rolls of clear plastic.

You didn't mention or I didn't pay attention are you insulating the floor as well?

Tiger Foam sells closed cell DYI kits. Just calculate the square footage of the walls and go from there.

Mineral wool is great for sheds. Fewer issues with pests and moisture, and way easier to work with, compared to fiberglass.
