Glad I don't like rye... just one less thing I have to spend a bunch of money on. Smile

Do a blind vertical tasting and compare all the variations you have on hand...

a 1yr difference, between 2yrs and 3yrs no less, is a mighty thin difference to detect.

I wonder if I could tell, blind.

Hmmmm - the same juice sitting in a vat (stainless or wood) for one more year. Might make a difference if it's wood barrel. Looking forward to the results of the blind tasting. Cool

However, me likee muchly my first two fingers of the 3yr Willet. Big Grin

well I nailed which one was the 3 year tonight. Nose had less of an alcohol smell, and the taste of Rye bread was more dominant in the 3 year. SO while the color was the exactly the same, I could tell a difference blind Had the wife hand me the whiskey tasting glass outside the room. wow good juice.

I also blind tasted my first vatting experiment with stagg jr. And devils cut. The 1:1, 2:1, 1:2. Variants. It was an abomination of a drink and i guess each one the 2:1 devilscut was the "best" but i wouldnt call it a success.

ER and Stagg Jr. Are the same mash bill so I'm not surprised they blend well.

Deqlyn I found Devils cut to be pretty bad on its own

Awesome (Willett tasting). Those guys know what's up... I look forward to the future...

Man, I leave the vatting to the old men who specialize in blended Scotches, though I messed around some a few or more years ago. I barely have time and such to even enjoy all of the good Straight whiskies (or Single Malts if you're into that). And then the purist in me surfaces and I tend to ignore it all, to the point of turning my nose up to blended whiskey of any sort. (admittedly: hipster/snob/purist/nerd-ish).

I would like to age several for a while longer, including Stagg Jr., though.

I wish it was easy to buy entire barrels of top notch juice (still in the barrel, not bottled), without being in the business. There are several I'd like to have (Stagg, Handy, Taylor, Weller 12, Knob Creek, Baby Saz, Willett Rye, and so on). One day, maybe.

oh yeah? same for regular Stagg, too, then? I missed that I guess, or forgot.

weird.

I love Stagg (both), and I like ER (regular and BTAC), but have thought and said a few times that what I've noticed every time I've bought a bottle of ER I'm all into it at first, then it starts to sort of bore me, or rather not really stand out, but I love Stagg. curious.

I actually like devils cut on the rocks. For 20 bucks i find ot my best value. Though i havent had it much since i got into the hotter bourbons.

I cant drink any scotch as the malt doesnt prefer me. Or irish whiskey so the bourbon vatting is next step til new releases!

I did finally have cask strength makers. Damn that was good juicex drank like a 90 proofer.

I *can* drink Scotch and Irish whisk(e)y, but that damn medicinal, iodine-y, peat-y, grass-y, stuff is for the birds. IMO Bourbon and Rye "fixed their problems" and do whiskey better, just like America is like Europe 2.0, an improvement, an evolution, and for the better. Smile

Makers Cask Strength is solid. It's all I ever wanted from them, really, and now I support them and trade them money for whiskey, happily. It's late, but at least it's here now.

What's interesting is the antique collection is from mash bill #1 or the Rye mash bill. They don't have an antique offering from mash bill #2 which is Blanton's ETL, and rock Hill Farms. I'd love to get one of these in a barrel proof offering with additional age like the antique collection.
