I just ran across Grady Smith a few days ago. He does a Country Music VLOG and obviously, puts a lot of effort into his YT posts.
In this one he laments the overuse of electronic “snap,” and “clap” tracks, as well as electronic drums in Pop/Country. I drifted away from Contemporary Country well before snap tracks became dominant, but for a long time, I still enjoyed watching the CMAs because there were always performances that I enjoyed. I didn’t find a single one this year.

I could not tell you one new country artist I stopped listening to country music years ago.
I do remember in the late 80s and 90s, everyone thought that style of country music was too upbeat and rock n rollish.
I still favor Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash,and the singers from that era.but I do like my Clint Black, Travis Tritt, and George Strait.
I have a hard time considering what is played on the country stations now, country music

Good video. I don't know anything about the music industry, but watching the video made me wonder whether maybe it is becoming monopolized? Fewer independent studios and producers?

I don’t think there’s any doubt about that, Joe. Both radio stations and the recording industry are largely corporate owned now. I’m reminded a a recorded interview with Frank Zappa from years ago; I think what he said then is more relevant than ever today.

When I want country I listen to the David Allen Coe or Honky Tonk channels on Pandora. Coe, Haggard, Jones, Johnny. Hank and Hank Jr. Even Hank III. Some old Garth and George Strait. I like Jamey Johnson too.
The new stuff they play on the radio like what the guy in the OP is talking about. Big nope.

The problem is that there has been a giant sink hole where "pop" music used to be. For better or worse, in the 90's there was some "white people" pop music. A lot of light-rock bands, Hootie and the Blowfish, Gin Blossoms, Natalie Imruglia, NSYNC, Britney and Christina, et. al.
But now, most of the pop artists have migrated over to more R&B sounds and topics. And thus, "country" music has slid in to fill the void of white people pop music. So they stopped being country, picked up some pop beats, and now the likes of what you see in that video have replaced the Backstreet Boys and 98 degrees.
There is still good music out there, including good country music, but virtually none of it is on the radio.
I'm gonna vote for the funniest frog with the loudest croak on the highest log.

I agree that country music for me is the story telling. The music has to match though but it's the story telling. Helps you to drink beer sitting at the bar in a honky tonk dive.

This guy is spot on! Yeah...country music went by the wayside after Alan Jackson, George Strait, Clint Black, Reba McEntire, Trisha Yearwood, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Joe Diffie, et. al. exited the industry. Even Garth Brooks wasn't really "country"...he was the father of cross-over country/pop, though he is EXTREMELY talented.

I think this is a really good explanation of what happened to top 40 country music. Add in what others said about it all being corporate radio station and label driven. modern music you hear on the radio is about money and money only. Find something you can sell and churn out as many replicas as you can for as long as you can. And that goes for any genre of music, although anymore it is hard to tell the difference.
As YellowJacket said there still is some really good country music being made it just isn't on the local country station that is likely owned by iheartradio.

Agreed. The pop country that comes out of Nashville now, and that has been for 25 years, is just pop music sung in a Southern accent.
It is boring.

Modern Country is rap and pop music for people who don't like regular rap and pop music.
But it's mostly the fault of corporate radio, and big labels.
There are still tons of more independent and authentic artists, of all genres.
The one thing I cannot and will not forgive in "country music" is faked southern twang and accents.

We have one local radio station (limited range Yavapai County, AZ 94.3) that plays only traditional country music. But they still have to pay their bills. When I get tired of their commercials, I listen to my collection of 200 country CDs.
We've put many of those onto USB drives for our vehicles.

I stopped watching the CMA show when Hollywood started showing up, they infected the whole business.
