The Pale Blue Eye (Netflix)

FiveFiveSixFanThe Pale Blue Eye (Netflix)
A period piece set at West Point during the time Edgar Allan Poe was a cadet there, The Pale Blue Eye involves Poe being enlisted to assist with an investigation into a fellow cadet's murder.
Christian Bale was very good and Robert Duval and Gillian Anderson had smaller roles. I found it to be well worth watching.

I liked Bale, and the guy who played Poe was good. I found the story to be a little stretched, especially at the end. However, it was still decent. It was well filmed, and quite nice to look at. Lot of good and seemingly authentic period details and costumes.

YooperSigsI am a Bale fan, going all the way back to Empire of the Sun, so I checked it out. It was worth a watch and set in an interesting locale and time. The actor playing Poe was also in The Ballad of Buster Struggs.

MRBTXWe watched it, enjoyed it a lot. The 2nd in Command at the academy was an irritant.

I agree. Some judicious editing would have been helpful at that point but it didn’t affect my overall enjoyment.

Yes, he was! I’m glad it wasn’t just me who thought that.

FiveFiveSixFanHere’s a curious factoid. I was reading through the entry for the cast on the IMDB site and found John Fetterman listed as having played a ‘Tavern Man’ (uncredited). I wonder how that came about?

I was trying to place the actor who played Poe in this. Turns out it’s the same actor who played Dudley Dursley in the “Harry Potter” movie series, an annoying, abusive, fat kid.
He did a GREAT job as Edgar Allan Poe.

PHPaulI didn't recognize Robert Duvall, had to look up the cast!
And yeah...the ending. After the fire in the icehouse I figured it was over and was shocked to see 30 minutes left!
But overall, a pretty decent flick. I do wonder how accurate a depiction of West Point in the 1830's it was.

Dwill104Just finished watching the movie. It was interesting, but a little slow in the middle. Thought the reveal at the end was a bit weak as it depended on coincidence, and it made what was was going on in the icehouse when the fire started not make a whole lot of sense.

Batty67I enjoyed the movie, but as others have noted, it dragged and the ending was a bit over the top. The acting and production were excellent. Definitely worth watching.

Much of the filming was done in Pittsburgh area. A number of locals were used.

Completely agree with this. They should have left well enough alone.

corsairIt was entertaining.
Any idea how accurate the movie is to the novel?

That’s a good question. Has anyone read the book? Before seeing the movie, I wasn’t aware that there was one.
