PHPaulThe Expanse, Season 5 is up!
On Amazon Prime.
Just in time too, I was running out of things to watch.

Looks like they're doing that silly weekly release crap, just like they did with The Boys, ugh.

Like Mandalorian?
Regards, Will G.

RogueJSKNo, not like Mandalorian... because unlike Disney, Amazon at least releases the first 3 episodes in a block for a mini-binge.

It's actually a smart move, from a business standpoint. If you drop a whole season at once, folks will binge it in a day or two, talk about it for another day or two, and then move on until next year when the next season drops. The hype and discussion is very short-lived.
With weekly episode releases, the hype and buzz sticks around for week after week over several months, building and driving more people to your platform. People will talk and argue about it online endlessly over that period, and rewatch the content trying to decipher the little tidbits from the latest episode and anticipate what will happen next week.
Amazon is attempting to split the difference, dropping a block of episodes off the bat to pacify the bingers, but still reaping the benefits of the extended hype/buzz period.
I mean, you only have to look at show discussion threads here on Sigforum to notice the difference...
For a show with an entire season that drops at once, the thread consists of posts like:
-Just watched Season X. I liked it. Thought XYZ character was annoying.
-Yep. It was good.
-Yeah. Can't wait for next season.
-I didn't like the storyline this season. Last season was better.
And this goes for maybe a page or three before it dies out, with the occasional necro post a few months down the road by a late arrival who wants to chime in that they, too, liked the season.
But with episodic content, the thread stretches on over weeks/months, filled with near-daily episode discussion posts like:
-Last night's episode was great. I wonder if XYZ is going to make it out okay? Who do you think that mysterious person at the end was?
-No, I think they're done, and I think it's going to be revealed that blah blah
-No way, man. There's no way that XYZ did whatever. It's gotta be ABC.
-DUDE, I can't believe it was ABC after all. I bet next week we'll see whatever.
Etc. Etc. And this goes on and on and on for 10 or 20 pages over the course of the multi-month season. (See the Mandalorian thread, or the older epic Game of Thrones threads, or the Walking Dead threads from seasons when it was still good, or similar.)
Now take that Sigforum micro-example, and multiply it by all worldwide social media, throw in a healthy dose of "water cooler talk", add in some weekly episode watch parties, etc., and it makes a huge difference in your brand exposure.
I suspect that even Netflix will eventually adopt this release model.

P250UA52 episodes in, looking good.
The Enemy's gate is down. December 16, 2020, 03:11 PM
just1tymExcelente' gives me something to binge tonight! Like so many other good series I had to anxiously wait each week for a new episode, that gets old. Even waiting for a new season can be a drag, especially when they tactfully leave of on an episode at a very critical point, thats really frustrating and I want to throw a shoe at my TV when they pull that stuff!
Regards, Will G.

I agree with this. These streaming services keep upping prices but continue to give us less episodes.
Netflix was playing this game with it's Marvel series. 13 episodes down to ten down to eight. But at least you got them all at once so you could do as you please.
Shit, all they have to start doing now is slowly inserting commercials into the series and we'll be right back to the days of cable.
Except with cable you got months and months of episodes.
Liked Star Trek or SG-1? You could watch that all winter into spring.

I think they are just trying to prevent folks from paying for a month and cancelling,
now folks will just have to wait till they all are out, sign up for a month, and cancel
