Elmer Bernstein's swingin' score for Sweet Smell of Success. Love it!
Miles Davis' smoky jazz score in Louis Malle's Elevator to the Gallows. Recorded in a Paris recording studio in one session, in the middle of the night. Man oh man. So damn cool.
This last one- it would not be entirely correct to call this a musical score. In 1994, Richard Einhorn viewed Carl Theodor Dreyer's 1928 silent masterpiece The Passion of Joan of Arc and was inspired to compose a libretto as a musical score. Einhorn's composition and Dreyer's film create a synthesis to the degree that I cannot imagine viewing the film without this score. Just listen to the opening. Beautiful.

I like most all of these and have a lot of them in my Great Film Scores station on Pandora. I built it from scratch so it's mostly the instrumental music only (no lyrics), but there are a few James Bond songs mixed in and some classical. It often plays in the background in my office at work.
Here's a link if anyone's interested in giving it a try:
There's a list of songs used to create the station on the page when it comes up.
