MelissaDallasWestminster Dog Show
My cousin’s Belgian Sheepdog won Best of Breed at Westminster today, and Best of Show at Belgian Sheepdog Clubs of America National Specialty yesterday. She’s come close at Westminster a couple of times on breed before. Gotta figure out where I can watch Herding Group judging tonight.
There are certain breeds that almost always win, with lesser known breeds getting little notice. Maybe tonight will be different.
Look for Brinkley (a/k/a Uptown Girl) if you watch.

Sailor1911Not a show dog fan, but that is an accomplishment. Good for your cousin, hope they win it all.

irreverentAmazing! I’ve been once, and the dog I was traveling with (not mine) made the cut, but didn’t get breed. Wild situation where another bitch relieved itself in the ring, then trotted off with a much better gait and took breed.
Kudos to your cousin. That takes dedication AND a great dog.

henryaz You hardly ever see a sighthound win the hound group (which includes sighthounds and scenthounds). The exception is usually the dumbest dog of all, the Afghan Hound.

And you called it!
My theory is most judges feel very secure in absolutely knowing the breed standard for a handful of breeds and ignore the ones someone might call them out on if the were wrong.

In the years she was really, really working at it she traveled all the time. It is a very, very expensive hobby and truly a labor of love. I had one of the puppies out of her very first litter and six of us had the best time taking them to obedience classes together. She never had more than a litter or two a year and her dogs were always such sweet good dogs. Mine was the doggy love of my life.
