The Stand series on Prime
Anyone checking it out? I remember reading The Stand as a teen and being riveted by the enormity of such an event- a man made plague loosed on the world with an extremely high mortality rate. The opening, the character development, the sense of inescapable fate if you were not one of the VERY lucky few. The first televised version wasn’t too bad, but obviously could never encompass the detail of the book.

I started watching the new series on Prime hoping it wouldn’t stray too far from the novel. I am halfway through the second episode and while there are some similarities, it has so far been a bit of a disappointment. Too Hollywooded, changes in events, timelines, and the worst detail so far, Whoopi Goldberg as mother Abagail. Pretty much everything.

I haven't watched it, but I wouldn't mind seeing the original made-for-TV series again.

I loved the book!

For the purists out there that respect canon, I will save you the time. This steaming turd is not worth watching. I gave it a try through 3 episodes and was very disappointed. Way too many inconsistencies, dei crap, character changes… and did I mention Whoopi Goldberg.

You’re welcome.

The 1994 miniseries wasn't horrible. I can only imagine a current remake

The original wasn’t perfect but it was as faithful as could be expected in 8 hours. And yes, the new series is an unwatchable train wreck.

I loved loved loved this book, and still do. I tried the first in 1994 and said "no way". Still feel that way.

Might have been my favorite book as a youngster, definitely my favorite King book.

Nothing I’ve seen on the screen is worth 2 minutes of my time. I got excited when I saw the title of this thread but went limp when I saw Whoopi is in it. Significant shrinkage.
