The Many Saints of Newark: Sopranos Prequel Movie
This looks pretty damn good! I love how they nailed young Tony Soprano’s facial expressions:

Damn, that explains it!

It was almost eerie watching his face in the phone booth.

Is this going to be a series or is it a stand alone movie?

Really looking forward to this. He seems from the clips to be a good actor, I hope it turns out to be good.

It was just ok for me. I was expecting a lot more. Seems like they will eventually make more movies. This 2 hour movie seemed to be cut short and just didn’t move the storyline along very much.

I enjoyed it and it left me wanting more. Michael Gandolfini sure did make me think we were seeing young Tony. Nice touch.

Watched it tonight with some friends who were fellow Sopranos fans and thought it was pretty good.

Kinda felt the the Sopranos version of Solo: A Star Wars Story. I thought the portrayal of the younger Uncle Junior was spot on and Silvio was hilarious.

Kind of disappointed in that they made it seem like in the trailer that the movie was all about the young Tony Soprano when it was really more a movie about Dickie Moltisanti.

FYI; the kid in the trailer who says “Hey, jerkoff!” to Tony was Artie Bucco, the chef/restaurant owner in the Sopranos series.

I tried to watch it today. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood, but not since U 571 has a movie so failed to capture or maintain my interest. I truly can't tell you anything about it. It's a blank spot in my memory.

I'm generally let down by sequels and prequels, so I wasn't expecting too much. On one hand, I found it entertaining enough that the movie went by fast. I actually wish it was longer. On the other hand, I had really hoped that the young Tony Soprano character would have been the center of the movie, and I was a bit disappointed to see it mostly centered around Dickie Moltisanti.

That's exactly what I thought about it.

I'm a huge Soprano's fan. I've watched the series full through several times.

I liked this movie, but as some have already mentioned, it left me wanting more about Tony rather then Dickie Moltisanti. I think they did a great job of recreating the characters in their early days. I'm going to watch it again, as I probably missed some things.

I watched it last night. I enjoyed it but it was no where near what I expected. Like many here I expected it to focus on young Tony not Dicky. I had a blast though comparing the body language, voice patterns/inflection etc. of the characters to the ones we all know. I thought they nailed it, especially Junior. The first scene he talked in the camera was away a bit but I heard him speak and saw the bald head and thought "that's got to be Junior!". Sal was also good, from the way he walked to the way he tilted his head and used his hands. I thought the little conversation he had with Dicky about not being hard on Tony was just like many of the bits of advice he would give Tony in later years. I completely saw Vera Farmiga growing into Tony's mom from the series. Nutcase lol.

I do have a question. Was it known that Junior put out the hit on Dicky? Did Tony know this? Tony tells Chris it was a crooked cop which I suppose could be true (like if he was the guy who got the contract).

Saw it last night. I agree with much of the above. Overall enjoyable and think the actors did a good job lining up the facial expressions, voice inflection, and mannerisms of the series cast. Especially for Tony's. Mother, Junior, Sil, Paulie.

It left me wanting more though. Really felt like they were setting up for more installments if this is successful.

Is Ray Liotta reprising his role from Goodfellas in this, playing a unique character for this movie, or was he in The Sopranos?

Well, the title is a giveaway. Many Saints = Molti Santi

It's a story set in the Soprano's universe, but not about the Sopranos.

Still, watch the trailer at the top of this thread, and you'll see why a lot of people were expecting more Tony Soprano.

Yep. I was expecting Sopranos and was confused when the initial narrator started. They should have been clearer.
