Tried, but got REALLY tired of subplots re: Our Hero's autistic approach to dating and The Detective's failing marriage.

I. Don't. Give. A. Shit. about your personal life, get on with the story!

It's akin to 50's war movies with all the romantic scenes. Thank God for fast forward.

I look forward to the sequel: Crime 405 or maybe Crime 15...

Serviceable L.A. neo-noir crime drama. It's major flaw is that it doesn't do anything noteworthy. What happened to movies with chutzpah? Gumption? Fervor? This is no Heat or To Live and Die in L.A. or L.A. Confidential. No boundaries are pushed. No new ground is broken. During the film, the two lead characters mention Bullitt and The Thomas Crown Affair. Is anybody going to be talking about this movie in 40+ years? I don't think so. Mark Ruffalo's character might be a continuation of his L.A. cop from Collateral, which blows the doors off this film. I thought Chris Hemsworth was much more successfully badass in Blackhat, which nobody but me seemed to like. Of course, both of those were helmed by the great Michael Mann.

What this film gets right is that it's made for grown-ups about grown-ups. I miss grown up movies. 12-year-olds looking to watch Thor, the Hulk, and Storm featured together are going to be so bored. The glossy, vapid L.A. setting is perfect in showing how modern middle-age yuppie malaise sucks the life from people's core. Maybe the film is a commentary on what happens to individuals that aren't excited to rush home to film a YouTube video about the new Funko POP doll or video game they just purchased.

By the way, that's no way to treat Jennifer Jason Leigh! She needs way more screen time! Tsk, tsk...

Alrighty then, I’m big enough to admit it when I make a mistake.

I don't normally ask too much out of a movie, just entertain me, and this one did. While I think Ruffalo is a despicable human being, I do like his acting.
