Beato just did a long interview with film scorer Thomas Newman, someone I'd never heard of (though it turns out I've heard a lot of his scores) and would've thought I'd have little interest in learning about film scores...but it was an absolutely fascinating interview.

I learn more about music theory in a half hour from Beato than I did in 10 years of classical piano study. The guy is a great teacher...

Great song.

Looks like he’s got a Gibson J50. Discontinued now, but essentially a blonde J45. I bought my J50 new in 64 (63 model). It’s got a thinner neck with dots for fret markers instead of the stylized paralellograms.

Paid it on time payments at age 16 @ 18 bucks a month forever for total of 250.00. Seemed like forever.

According to net, the ole beast is worth 2k and up now.

Almost 60 years of aging has turned it into a resonant boomer.

Saw that earlier.
Had Jim Croce on an 8tack as a kid.
Also always impressed by Mary Spender and Rick Beato > two greats.

Such a great song. This from the comments section at YT --

"I saw his son in concert last year and he explained where this song came from. His father was in the army stationed at Fort Dix, and when the soldiers had free time, they'd line up at the only pay phone on base to wait their turn to call home to talk to their girls. While he waited for his turn, he heard one side of tragedies playing out before his eyes as soldier's girls moved on while they were away. As a song writer, he realized it was pure gold."

You know it happens every time.

A great song that reminds us of past pain that we thought we have "dealt" with. Yes, there is something in my eyes too when I hear the song.

I wonder if the guy ever recognized himself in the song?

Wow! Never had heard of any of this guys videos before. This is really a great watch! Thanks!

And yes, I'm 75 and had Croce's albums. Lost 'em during a PCS military move back in the day.

...and I found this which tells more than I ever knew about him and his music:
