I watched this 1968 classic last night. I’ve probably seen it a dozen times. Last night, I actually was amazed by how advanced the movie was for the year. In this day and age, everybody at least knows something about special operators.

In ‘68, the folks that watched that likely had no knowledge of special forces, night vision, M16s, or Puff the Magic Dragon. It had to be really ground breaking to watch at the time.

Haven't seen it for a bit but I loved it as a kid and watched it every chance I got.

Great flick, I have seen it many times.

My Army recruiter was a viet cong extra in the movie. He was stationed at Benning at the time. He was in the night scenes of the overrun of the firebase.

The Green Berets taught the Jungle Warfare School I attended in late 1967, so I knew about them.

Pretty much everyone in the Army knew, but don't know about anyone else.

Big hit in ‘66 for S/Sgt Barry Sadler. I always get sad at the line, “...put silver wings on my sons chest, make him one of America’s best...”
I hated David Janssen because of his smart ass questions and statements when Aldo Ray (Sgt. Muldoon)was explaining why we were involved in Vietnam and the weapons the commies used on us. As the movie went on, and Janssen realized his mistake, I came around to liking him again.

John Wayne and Mr. Sulu defend Georgia from the Viet Cong.

I believe its the only movie where the Duke auto-rotates. Mostly he rode a horse.

I never saw it but I remember a reviewer talking about the end of the movie and a scene with John Wayne waliking into the sunset at Can Ranh Bay. He observed " only the sun doesn't set at Cam Ranh Bay..but it does at Malibu."

Last night I watched "Chrome and Hot Leather", a 70s flick about a Green Beret whose fiance is killed by (sorta) a biker gang. Hilarity ensues.

I bought some guns from a guy a couple years ago,

he was at a base somewhere up in the mountians of VN, and John Wayne was sent there to get acclimated to the service and see what was going on prior to filming,

he told me J Wayne was one of the nicest guys he had met, and had a big scrapbook with pics and stuff from Wayne's visit,

he got no special treatment, which was what he had asked, however he said he (Wayne) was not allowed to leave the perimeter,


he had some great pics
