The Holdovers
I watched The Holdovers this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a coming of age flick that takes place at a boarding school over the Christmas break in the 70's. Paul Giamatti is the most well known actor in the movie, but the main character is played by Dominic Sessa, who had never acted before this movie, and he does an outstanding job. The casting director allowed students at the school they filmed at to audition and he was chosen.

It was very satifying to watch a movie that wasn't all action, CGI, and shallow characters. It just delivered a solid story with great characters that you actually cared about. I highly recommend it.

I like movies like this. Thanks. I'll check it out.

ETA: I liked it. In a similar vein to Dead Poet’s Society, but not near as good. Still worth the watch IMO.

Watched it on the plane... completely agree. A great movie with characters that have depth and development.

One of the best movies I've seen in years... and something does explode... something gets set on fire ...but didn't require CGI!

I think Giamatti is great in these types of roles. Really enjoyed the film.

We thought this one was pretty good. I can see the reference to Good Will Hunting. Just a good evening movie to watch.
