Recently shown on TCM and I got around to watching it the last couple of days. Actual gun camera and WWII Pacific Island combat footage woven into the movie. John Wayne, Robert Ryan, and several character actors…”there’s that guy!” I may have been just a kid when I saw the movie, but I really think it’s among Wayne’s best war movies. You might be able to find it through your streaming service.

F6F Hellcats stand in for F4F Wildcats in the first 3/4 of the movie (love Hellcats). F4U Corsairs in the latter part of the movie. Some great footage of both.

And IIRC, the Japanese pilots fly Hellcats too, just painted gray, at least in the cockpit shots.
