I know there are many musicians among the forum membership who might appreciate this. I've been a fan of Pat Metheny for a long time, but this is the first time I've heard him speak at length about his approach to the guitar, and to his music and life in general. This is a long but fascinating interview by fellow musician Rick Beato:

"You have all the tools you need. Don't blame them. Use them." - Dan Worrall

Good stuff. Beato is one of my favorite Youtube channels. He has some fantastic videos.

I watched every minute of it and loved it! The man is magic with the spirit of a saint.
Related: I saw Pat Metheny play on the Boston Common in the very early 80's. He was the main act. Guess who opened?
Miles Davis! Still blows me away.

I caught half of the video, will catch the other half tomorrow.
I also like Rick Beato's channel.
I think it was back in 95 I saw Pat Metheny Group at the House of Blues in the French Quarter. It was the "We Live Here " tour. I couldn't believe they played at such a small venue.
They were over an hour late when they started but once they started I didn't think they were ever going to stop.
It was an outstanding concert!

I never heard anything from Pat Metheny. I’m a pretty big fan of Jaco so I’m going to check it out. Bright Size Life is pretty cool so far.

Been a big fan of Pat and Lyle Mays (RIP) since I stumbled across "As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls" around 1980. Hooked ever since.

I heard an interview years ago with Pat Metheny - he was taught that a song needs to be a journey. One of his top songs does just that - Last Train Home.
I almost got to see him years ago at the UC Davis Mondavi Center.
