Since Grit Tv started airing westerns,
There have been around 10 movies about people selling guns to the "Indians".
My question is where the hell are all these Indian's getting all the cash to pay for these guns?
One movie had a whole wagon load of levers ( 96 total) allegedly $5,000.00 worth .
another movie had only 40 levers. no mention of money
So,I give up, in 1855- 1870 , where are they getting money to pay for rifles and ! ammo ?

2000Z-71First off, I wouldn't take old westerns as documentaries as to what actually happened. I mean really, The Comancheros was supposedly set in 1843, yet John Wayne uses a Colt Peacemaker and a Winchester 92. How did the Indians get their guns? By any means possible.
They had a big patchwork of firearms that were stolen, traded for or taken after a battle. Comancheros probably sold them some when they were active in Texas and New Mexico. There was a time when the Indians sold/traded horses to the Army and settlers. There were also trading posts all over the southwest where they could trade and sell goods. The Mexicans supplied the Apaches with guns hoping to placate them and turn them against the Americans. I'm sure the Sioux had a shit ton of Trapdoor Springfields after Little Big Horn.
