Let's check the standings in the "U.S. Military vs Aliens" movie competition...
At the top of the heap is the USMC with a pretty solid entry in "Battle: Los Angeles"

The Navy responded with "Battleship", earning it a second place position...by default.

Now the Army has entered the fray, saying "Hold my beer" and depositing an absolute turd on Netflix with "War Machine".

If this trend continues, I feel like I'm waiting to see a school bus smacked by a train when the USAF and SF get in on the game.

RLTW!

It's a Netflix movie. Chocked full of cliches and every few minutes reminding you what the movie is about. I liked how 7 spent most of the movie being carried through it. lol
44 was the breaking point. No way she made it through RASP.

I give it 2/10. and that's because it had guns in it.

Not minority enough!

71 year old Dennis Quaid as the regiment CSM?
That’s less likely than an alien invasion.

Quick correction: The film you're thinking of is called "Battle: Los Angeles".

(Note that this is distinct from "Battle of Los Angeles", which was a low budget C-movie direct-to-video ripoff of it.)

For those who haven't seen Battle: Los Angeles, it is a surprisingly good war film. Despite the "Marines vs. Alien Invasion" premise, it's treated seriously, rather than turning out cheesy or outlandish. Some of the characters and plot points fall a bit short, but the various combat scenes themselves are quite good across the board.

This is because it was made with the support of the US Marine Corps, who provided trainers and technical advisors, several Marine infantry units to be used as extras, and real USMC equipment, vehicles, and aircraft.

So the gear, guns, vehicles, terminology, and small unit tactics are all fairly correct.

What unit was Dutch and his crew, in Predator?

Was it regular Army units or National Guard in Cloverfield? Although, I suppose the Air Force was involved when dropping the nuke.

It was the Air Force who held the majority of the fighting in Independence Day.

I'm claiming a senior moment. Big Grin And I was still suffering from seeing War Machine.

And Them were not alien invaders, IIRC.

Will Smith was a Marine aviator, so they get the credit.

Navy SEALs in Alien Warfare. I guess that falls under the Navy--or is that considered Special Forces?

"War Machine" Army Rangers vs. Unknown alien machines. New movie on Netflix I watched last night with Alan Ritchson (Reacher)

Correct. Those were terrestrial ants that got irradiated by atomic bomb testing and became yuge. No aliens involved.

Well, yeah... That was what prompted this thread, as detailed in the OP and a bunch of the follow up posts.

SEALs are both Navy units and special operations forces. Each of the four main military branches - Army, Navy, Air Forces, and Marines - have their own SOF units, which all fall under the Special Operations Command. (So far there are no Coast Guard or Space Force special operations units.)

But SEALs are not Special Forces.

In the US military, "Special Forces" denotes Army Green Berets (only), a specific type of SOF.

The Army's Special Forces are one of many special operations forces, but not all special operations forces are Special Forces.

The "SF" in the OP stands for Space Force anyway, not Special Forces.

If Autobots and Decepticons are counted as aliens in the live-action Transformers movies, those check the Air Force box. Some Navy interaction in the second movie, but largely Air Force and their Combat Controllers/JTACs.

Meh. War Machine was actually better then a ton of these movies and way better then Battleship IMO. Now I’m not saying it was a GOOD MOVIE but it was entertaining and had decent production values and acting.

The robot reminded of some of the ones in Horizon Zero Dawn or Generation Zero (both games).

I didn’t hate hate War Machine. Now, I did audibly groan at multiple points. I also thought dragging 7 around was retarded and even with a full auto “I believe” button it was a tough one to swallow.

They set it up for a sequel and I can only believe it would be awful.

Nothing can be better than the Missouri clubhauling to outmanuever the alien ship, then laying the smackdown with a full broadside of 16-in guns!

(I'm just glad nobody has disputed my suggestion about Cloverfield.)

Air Force still wins with Independence Day and depending on where you fall between movie and tv series, they also have a strong case for Stargate the year before.

Technically, there were two movies for the television series, as well.
