I was in a forum for Clancy novels and he would sometimes and answer questions. He had one that famously said, (iirc) "well I am a pretty smart person" but he also got an amazing amount of information from Janes and the LOC. He also was so accurate with some Russian sites that were supposedly classified that he got visits from the Gov. I am pretty sure it is all archived online somewhere.
