Star Wars Rogue One SPOILERS.... YOU'VE BEEN WARNED
I see Rogue One as being something different than the "Star Wars" movies.

It's a pulp about people making snap decisions with the knowledge they had at the time. This lead to a series of events that ultimately allowed the Rebel Alliance to discover the Death Star's greatest flaw.

For what it was, I think it was pretty good. A story that needed to be told? No. Could they have written around actually needing physical/CGI Tarkin/Leia? Yes. Should they have? Yes.

Every thing else wasn't half bad. Even Gerra giving up and being like, "Shit dudes. This Ghost Dog is done runnin." The guy had been in a million battles and was fucked up. Who cares if he says, "Fuck it." and blows up with some random city on some random planet?

The space battle was pretty fun. As was the planetary shield thing. Pretty neat, IMO.

You mean a civilization that has mastered traveling at light speed should've also understood FTP file storage?! Wink

Meh. As we learn in the prequels they haven't mastered the basics of prenatal care including ultrasound technology....so it shouldn't be a big surprise. Wink

They are all hamstrung by their legacy. The franchise has evolved into semi-steampunk.

Well, all the spaceships and lazers are 'futuristic,' so...

I believe you may have missed the point of my post, which was that (again unless something has changed dramatically) the Rebels didn't HAVE warships.

Even if it's a converted cruise liner, are you going to put CiC in an exposed observation dome, or deep in the heart of the ship?

They are futuristic, or so ancient that the technology has been lost...

Many modern high security computer systems have no connection to the outside and incoming or out going data must be physically transferred.

That, I could buy. But a tower? In an open shaft?

Saw an article that got me to thinking, and you all can go and verify it:

If you watch the R1 trailer, pay attention because it seems to be about 99% of cut scenes that never made it into the final film.

Kind of strange if you ask me.

Not really, depending on which trailer you watched. Remember that a massive amout of reshoots were ordered pretty late on in production, after at least a few of the trailers had already been compiled.

What happened to Darth Vader's voice?...it sounded weak, and unclear. How can he be the bad boy with a weak voice?

Would it be a silly question to ask why the only way to enter that planet's atmosphere was through that portal?

Force field/shield around the whole planet, kind of like the the shield around Death Star 2 in Return of the Jedi. Rogue One planet was basically a high security storage vault, shield and portal was first security check.

Yeah, the shielded the ENTIRE planet (it was, after all, a pretty important facility). Yet, they allowed a couple intruders with NO authentication, IDs, biometrics, etc, to just literally stroll in and take their crown jewel. . .

Well, that's why it's called a portal. Just like you can't walk through the doorless wall on one side of your house.

Saw it for the fourth time today.
It gets better with each subsequent viewing.

The only real plot-hole I'm seeing is:
When Leia on the Tantive IV jumps to lightspeed away from Scarif, we assume that she goes to Tatooine in order to find Obi-Wan. Why doesn't she transmit the Death Star plans to Yavin IV already? Or at least stop there in order to drop off the plans before she goes looking for Kenobi?

I also got the sense that this movie would get better with multiple viewings, which I'll probably do at some point.

Just guessing here, but as far as transmitting the plans, didn't they make some comment about the file simply being too large to be sent without quick detection by the Empire?

As far as a drop-off, wouldn't that have revealed the location of the Rebel's secret military base on Yavin IV?

Someone correct me if I'm "off-base".

What we don't see at the end of Rogue One is Vader immediately returning to his star destroyer and chasing her down. While in pursuit, the star destroyer is jamming all communications from the blockade runner. That's why she's got to upload the plans into R2 and jettison him to Tattoine with the hope that he'll find Kenobi.

In that case, I'm guessing that Leia's consular ship cannot just jump into hyperspace and outrun the Imperial cruiser? Only a hot-rodded vehicle, i.e. the Millenium Falcon, could do that?

Is there any instance in canon where somebody was able to chase down a ship in hyperspace? All I've seen is trying to extrapolate a destination based on last known heading. In the beginning of New Hope, the Tantive IV was already at sub-light speed. I don't know how/why they dropped out of light speed. . .

Now, if they were smart, the rebels would have warped (I know, that's a Trek term) away on one heading, dropped out of light speed, changed course, and THEN re-jumped to light speed with nobody looking. That way, there would be no way to track them.

Of course, this is the problem with prequels. They have a pre-determined ending, so they don't always make sense (like Obi-Wan telling Luke that his father 'wanted him to have' the light saber. Anakin did no such thing. Regardless of the whole 'point of view' thing, Obi-wan LIED.
