I'd entirely forgotten about the
Masters of the Air series coming up. Looking forward to it.
Like Clint Eastwood, it seems Tom Hanks can't go wrong with whatever World War II material he brings to the screen.

TMatsSomething recently reminded me of this movie, and tonight we watched it for the first time on Apple tv. It had kind of a 60s WWII movie feel to it that I appreciated. I also appreciated the fact that it recognizes the many, many brave merchant seamen of the Allied countries who lost their lives in the War effort. I recently watched a Norwegian WWII movie that focused on their merchant marine. They suffered tremendous losses as well, and would likely be part of the convoy Greyhound was escorting.
I noted that Tom Hanks actually wrote the screenplay for the movie. Here’s a reminder for those, like me, who may have forgotten that this movie is out there. Well done.

pedropcolaI really enjoyed the movie. From a filmmaker perspective though I always wondered if Tom Hanks owed Elizabeth Shue a favor. Her role in the movie was completely superfluous. She supplied the slippers he used. She broke up with him in a movie that wasn’t romantic or a love story. You literally could have edited every scene with her out and not only would it make no difference, it actually would improve the movie.
I think he owed her money. No other explanation. Lol

RogueJSKProbably written in when the studio insisted "
This is all sailing and fighting... We need something for the ladies."
Kinda like the housewives scenes in We Were Soldiers.
