She makes multiple appearances in the books, so if they continue, she should be back.

If they stick to the Reacher formula, they could make this series forever.

Nobody who reads the Reacher books mistakes them for prose from Tolkien. It’s an easy, enjoyable read. The character never goes woke, the bad guys get it in the end, and Reacher gets laid occasionally. It’s a good formula.

No crowbar, no reacher getting clocked by crowbar, Quick fight with kid having a shotgun, then reacher chokes and drowns kid.

I enjoyed it up until the end, when the boss fight felt like a million others in television. The one other thing I didn't like was how heavily they implied that Reacher's brother was the one who'd gotten killed. I'm having a hard time remembering everything about the book but I think it was much later that it was revealed to be Joe. This ties into the added effect that, except for the scene where a few people seem to be afraid of him while he's downtown before getting arrested, they dropped the ball with showing people seeming to be familiar with Reacher when he initially entered the town.

It wasn't implied. In the first episode all we know is that there was a body, before he outright identified the body as his brother early on in the series (like in episode 2), and then they discussed his brother's murder multiple times subsequent to that.

I'm not sure what you're referencing. He gets arrested very shortly after getting off the bus and entering the roadside diner at the beginning of the first episode. Then there was an later scene where he goes to the town square for the first time after getting out of jail, and all the townsfolks are gawking at him and pointing/whispering behind his back.

But this is not because he looked like his brother. Rather, word quickly got around the very small town that "some giant dude was dramatically arrested at gunpoint for murder at the diner yesterday". Then they see said giant dude walking down the street a free man the next day. I even think there was a line about that shortly afterwards, how everyone had heard about his arrest. Maybe from the barber the first time they meet. I don't exactly recall.

Since I wasn’t clear in my original post, I’m saying they revealed his brother being among the dead too early and missed out on having the townsfolk mistaking him for his brother, thus slowly leading the audience to gradually realize his brother was one of the dead. As it was in the novel.

I enjoyed the series, but the body count and the mounting implausibility ramped up too far for me to suspend disbelief and maintain complete interest through the end. Still, very enjoyable all in all.

For those who have read it, was the body count the same in the book?

I thought the running gag 'more bodies...' from the increasingly beleaguered Finley was funny.

While there were quite a few deaths, I can't remember the exact number. I'd say there are more in the show than in the novel.

Wife and I enjoyed it. No previous exposure to the character but for the Cruise movies WITH all the SF Lair Board of Critics reviews in mind.

My wife and I watched it entirely last night. We liked it, after each show I asked her - do you want to watch another one? And she kept saying yes, finished at 0200 - good thing we didn't have any plans for this morning.

Looking forward to a second series, and more. Have not read the books, but have seen the two movies.

The last two episodes' action scenes is where I'm in alignment with you. The first six episodes, action was short, to the point and not elaborate. The final two episodes, its as if they got a different fight director to prolong and exaggerate the action. Multiple strikes to teh head and arms with a crow bar and no bones broken or, significant lacerations? A drawn-out shootout in the warehouse, where characters preferring to use a handgun over a long-gun when available? Main character can't shoot straight while his former colleague just sits in an exposed overwatch position picking off targets? Flammable liquid in giant vats and...I'll stop.

Don't get me wrong, this is the best live-action of Jack Reacher we've seen, there's some things to quibble about but, its all about the dialogue, storyline and the character. I'm looking forward to a season-2

I agree with you corsair.... I liked it and had the same problems... but it is TV.... and I'll repeat that the one thing that really really bothered me more than the overblown action (to be expected) was in the flash back when he and his brother go to visit their dying mother and Reacher is in U.S. Army full dress and has a 4 day beard.

There's a lot more to their mother in the books, esp. about her childhood in the French Resistance in Paris during WW2. I won't spoil what medal they found out (after she died) she was awarded for that work. It was a surprise to the brothers.

Wife and I just finished this up and enjoyed it. The final fight/shoot out scene was a little frustrating but the usual Hollywood style. No reloads and just leaving the dead guys guns when you could take them and have better weapons.

Wife even pointed it out.
