Just Started Watching The Starz Series “Counterpart” On Amazon Prime
Yes, I know it’s a few years old. Yes I know it got canceled after two seasons, but I’m really impressed with it so far and kind of bummed it wasn’t allowed to continue. It’s a very, very interesting concept. I love the idea of parallel Earth‘s and was a big fan of the series Fringe when that was on.

Has anyone watched this? Basically in 1985 during the Cold War the universe was accidentally split into two identical copies, and then they began to diverge from there and it takes place in the current time. What’s kind of eerie almost is the other earth underwent a deadly flu pandemic from 1996 to 2000 and lost 500 million people or 7% of the worlds population. Everyone over there is masked up in public, no one congregates anymore, etc, kind of like what’s going on now.

I’m a big fan of JK Simmons from the Oz era and love how he’s got to play two versions of himself in this as Howard Silk: in our world is this mild mannered Mr Nice Guy and in the Alternate world he plays a real hard ass SOB.

Who here has watched it?

I saw a couple of episodes a while back, liked it, but got distracted and haven't returned to it yet.

Simmons is definitely cool, I enjoy his acting work overall.

I didn't know it was canceled. That's unfortunate.

I’ve been watching it too. I’m on episode 7 now. Good stuff, I’m enjoying it even if my wife is not interested. Kind of a twist on the old Cold War.

Watched it when it was on Starz. Enjoy the show and then unfortunately it was cancelled.

I watched it last year. Well written sci-fi. J.K. Simmons is superb as Howard Silk. Both versions show his great acting skills. Now any time I see one of his insurance commercials, I always wonder if he's going to slip and become the evil salesman.

It's one of my favorites. Great actors and an interesting story.

I thought it was good myself. Sometimes it was a little hard to follow, as it switches back and forth. I liked the cast and they seemed to mesh well.

My wife and I tried it the other night. Couldn't make sense of it. Lost interest.

Struck us as a remake of Fringe, only not as engaging.

I thought the exact same thing when first watching it. Glad I ended up giving it some time. The story is frustrating at first but it really does come together and make sense after a bit.

It was neat. Had never heard of it and binged it all in like a week last month. I liked it. Beginning, middle, and end. I'd rather a show end on a good note than drag on forever.

There were definitely parallels to fringe, but that was a positive for me, not a negative.

I don't get that impression at all. Fringe was straight up sci-fi/action

This is more like a Cold War/espionage type storyline.

I loved the scene where the two diplomats are sitting negotiating like two diplomats from different countries but here they are from two different universes. The guy from our world asks his counterpart on the other side for the GPS coordinates for the "vast oil reserves you found under the Marianas Trench over there" and the guy tells him "you know I can't do that".

Have you noticed there are NO smart phones over in the other world? When you see a mobile phone at all (and it seems rare) they have old-style flip phones and when you see people from the other world see our iPhones they almost seem in awe of them. You get the impression that maybe Apple or Google never happened over there or they were too busy trying to survive a 4 year pandemic and they were never invented.

I started the show and we were enjoying but somehow got separated from it and never finished the two seasons.

Does it resolve the story?

I'm still working my way through Season One but I understand that Season Two ended in a way that was acceptable as a series finale and no cliffhanger or unresolved main storylines.

It just PISSES ME OFF that shows like this get cancelled and the GARBAGE gets to continue for years. Roll Eyes

This had been sitting in my watchlist for a while.
We wrapped up a few shows recently & I've started on this. I'm midway through season 1 & enjoying it so far.

Definitely an interesting concept, especially after watching The Man in the High Castle which coincidentally was also mostly based in Germany.

Bummer to see that it was cancelled, but will still keep on through it. Definitely takes a few episodes to get the swing of it.

Finished Season 1 last night.
Lots of twists & the occasional pause to figure out which world I'm seeing.
Only real loose end after S1, is Silk Alpha. Curious to see where S2 goes.
